KY has 37% of adults who have obesity. 

KY has 34.5% of children who have obesity between age 6-17. 

Who We Are

We are a group of physicians and health care providers who understand that Obesity is a serious disease with many treatments that are not available to everyone. 

The Bluegrass Obesity Society has been in existence since 2023. 

Since then we have brought together healthcare professionals from across the spectrum and across health systems. 

We have learned together about new treatments for weight management like new oral therapies, endoscopic procedures and bariatric surgery. 

We have passed policy with the Kentucky Medical Association on weight therapies. 

We have advocated in Frankfort with the Medicaid P&T Team and with our legislators.

We have written editorials about weight and the importance of better access. 

We have advocated to our colleagues on the importance of thinking of obesity as a chronic illness. 

We have spoken on the behalf of the Bluegrass Obesity Society in front of other healthcare groups like the Kentucky society of parenteral and enteric nutrition, kidney health alliance of KY. 

We need your support to keep this momentum growing. 

 There are many reasons to keep going: 

-Some health care providers still do not understand that diet and exercise alone do not work for most people with serious obesity.

-Less and less  insurance plans don't pay for any prevention or early intervention that is related to weight. 

-There are actually laws that block Medicare and Medicaid from paying for certain treatments, the current Bridge program is a novel change to see how coverage for Medicare goes for 18 months.  

We want to educate healthcare providers and lawmakers to ultimately make treatment more available for all who need them. And right now, these treatments are continuously advancing right now, and we must continue learning about what options are available. 

100% of the money that we raise will be used for education of health care providers, and advocacy towards obesity related issues. We appreciate any donation.
