Community Ministries - Walnut Street Baptist Church (CMWSBC)

The CMWSBC Food Bank is a Dare to Care anchor food pantry serving all Kentuckians. Located in Old Louisville, a food desert, many of our neighbors must travel by bus to a supermarket. The CMWSBC Food Bank strives to fill the needs of that void. The pantry serves approximately 1000 people monthly with USDA food and approximately 700 people weekly with fresh produce supplied by Dare to Care. These food streams are supplemented by donations from Krogers, Aunt Millie's Bakery and supportive church members. A separate pantry is stocked with food for unhoused individuals. The Community Ministry provides Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for approximately 200 households annually through the generosity of church members.

The food pantry has recently opened up a small area, The Marketplace, where neighbors can select grocery items. The Marketplace is a supplement to the decreased amount of USDA foods our neighbors receive monthly and is stocked through donations. The ministry is planning to increase the size of The Marketplace to provide a larger selection and to better serve our neighbors.

The CMWSBC includes an Infant Resource Ministry. This project was adopted in cooperation with the Long Run Baptist Association. It is located within the renovated community ministries space and serves to assist mothers and fathers with child care essentials from birth to size 5T. Mrs. Jan Dempsey coordinates the Infant Resource Ministry.

Additionally, CMWSBC provides hygiene and cleaning supplies as well as bed and bath essentials to neighbors in need.

Janet Pearson, Director, currently leads a team of 44 CMWSBC volunteers, continuing to answer Christ’s call to be a service to all neighbors, near and far.
