For post-9/11 veterans, service members and their families, one unexpected moment can change everything. A missed paycheck, medical bill, car repair or gap in benefits can quickly put a family at risk of losing their home, falling further into debt or facing a larger crisis. USA Cares steps in early with financial assistance, career support and resources designed to restore stability and reduce potential factors that can contribute to veteran suicide.
Our mission is to provide post-9/11 military veterans, service members and their families with financial assistance and post-service skills training to create a foundation for long-term stability. Our services improve quality of life for veterans and their families while addressing the financial, employment and housing challenges that can place additional strain on military families.
Through our programs, USA Cares provides support at every stage:
Military Assistance Response Program: When a veteran or military family faces a financial crisis, USA Cares can help with essential expenses including rent, mortgage payments, utilities, food and vehicle costs. Assistance is provided as a grant, not a loan, and payments are made directly to creditors so families can stabilize without taking on additional debt.
Career Transition Assistance: Transitioning from military service is about more than finding a job. USA Cares helps service members and veterans translate their military experience, strengthen resumes, prepare for interviews and connect with employers looking for military talent, helping them build careers that support long-term stability.
Operation Follow Through: Our support does not always end when the immediate financial crisis does. Through continued follow-up, USA Cares can help connect veterans and families with additional resources that support their long-term wellbeing and stability.
In 2025 alone, USA Cares provided more than $3.1 million in emergency financial assistance to 1,529 veterans and military families nationwide, helping save 974 homes from eviction or foreclosure, keep utilities on, put food on the table and keep veterans on the road.
USA Cares is committed to making every donation count. In 2025, 89.67 cents of every dollar donated directly supported programs and services for veterans and military families.
Your Give for Good Louisville gift helps USA Cares reach veterans and military families at the moment they need support most. By intervening early, we can help keep families housed, veterans employed and military families moving toward long-term stability.
