Our Vision

Our vision is to transform the Enrichment Center into a sustainable community resource that addresses the needs of the whole person and the whole family— educationally, socially, emotionally, physically, and economically. Through strategic partnerships with schools, nonprofit organizations, businesses, community leaders, volunteers, and donors, First Baptist Church Jeffersontown seeks to preserve an important piece of our community’s history while creating something equally important for its future. 

Enrichment Center & Community Resource Initiative

Educational Partnerships & Social-Emotional Learning
Our goal is to work alongside schools, educators, families, and community partners to help:  
A. Increase student attendance and engagement
B. Improve academic performance and grades
C. Reduce fighting, disciplinary incidents, and other negative behaviors
D. Strengthen conflict-resolution and communication skills
E. Develop leadership, personal responsibility, and positive decision-making
F. Provide students with caring adult mentors and positive role models 

Learning Lab 
A major component of the Enrichment Center will be the development of a Learning Lab that can provide: 
A. Tutoring and Academic Support for underserved youth, including students who may need additional academic support.
B. Quiet Study & Reflection Areas where students can study, read, decompress, reflect and temporarily step away from the pressures and distractions of
     everyday life.
C. Technology Center which houses technology such as laptops, desktop computers, mobile devices, online applications and other to instruct in their use. 
D. ESL Support space and resources for English as a Second Language programs for children and adults as community needs arise. 
E. Community Resource Center is a long-term vision where the Enrichment Center becomes a trusted community resource hub where individuals and
     families can find assistance, opportunity, dignity and hope. This may require an addition to the existing structure.

Our goal is for the Enrichment Center to be a single, welcoming place where community members can access multiple resources without having to contact several organizations on their own.
F. Youth & Intergenerational Programming provides students with opportunities for mentoring, tutoring, leadership development, meals, and fellowship. 
    We want young people, working-age adults and seniors to have the opportunities to learn from one another, serve together, and strengthen relationships
    throughout our community.
G. Health, Wellness & Recreation 
     a)  First Baptist Church has a gymnasium and fitness facility that can be used to promote healthier lifestyles for youth, adults and seniors.
     b)  Funding will allow us to improve the facilities and expand opportunities such as:
            i.   Youth and Adult Basketball
           ii.    Pickleball
          iii.    Fitness and exercise classes
          iv.    Senior wellness activities
           v.    Community, Youth and Senior wellness initiatives

Why Funding Is Needed
To fully realize this vision, the historic Enrichment Center requires both cosmetic and structural improvements. Funding will help us address necessary building improvements while creating safe, functional, welcoming spaces for education, technology, workforce development, community services, recovery meetings, mentoring, and intergenerational programming. 

This investment is about much more than renovating a building, it is about restoring a historic place of education so that it can educate, equip, and empower another generation. A building that once helped provide educational opportunity to African American children during a time when those opportunities were limited can now become a place that serves an entire community—children struggling in school, families needing food or clothing, adults seeking employment, individuals pursuing recovery, seniors learning technology, and neighbors simply looking for a place to belong.
