Who We Serve

Second Chance Strategies serves justice-involved individuals preparing to return home, while developing the peers and lived-experience leaders who are uniquely qualified to help them succeed. We partner with correctional facilities, communities, employers, and service providers across Kentucky to build stronger pathways from incarceration to opportunity.

The Need

Every year, thousands of Kentuckians leave jail and prison determined to rebuild their lives, yet too many return to communities without trusted guidance, meaningful support, or clear connections to recovery, employment, housing, and essential services. At the same time, individuals with lived experience possess invaluable knowledge and credibility but often lack opportunities to turn that experience into professional leadership.

What We Do

Second Chance Strategies bridges that gap by recruiting, training, and certifying Reentry Specialists through our RE-SET (Reentry Support, Engagement, and Transition) Certification Program. We equip peers with the knowledge, ethics, trauma-informed practices, workforce development skills, and systems navigation tools needed to provide meaningful in-reach inside Kentucky's jails and prisons and ongoing support after release.

We believe the most effective guides are those who have walked the journey themselves.

When individuals are connected to trusted support before they leave incarceration, they are more prepared to navigate recovery, secure employment, reconnect with family, access community resources, and build stable, productive lives.
