Bill Hollander's Feed the Hungry Fund at UCHM

Since leaving Metro Council, I've spent Monday mornings helping at United Crescent Hill Ministries' food pantry.  My wife and I pick up donated food at Kroger and help fill the shelves with whatever is available. The need is growing and, unfortunately, government benefits are being reduced. Despite the efforts of many volunteers, churches, Dare to Care and others, sometimes the shelves are nearly empty when we know that many families will be coming in the afternoon hoping to get something to eat. It's heart breaking. 

For more than 50 years,  United Crescent Hill Ministries has been the safety net in our community.  The four-day-a-week food pantry gives neighbors a place where they can find groceries. Rent and utilities assistance means families can stay in their homes with the lights on and water running. The UCHM program for seniors creates connections for people who, too often, can find themselves isolated and alone. Children's programs provide essentials like school supplies and gifts to brighten the holidays a little.  

United Crescent Hill Ministries does all of that and more. For more than 50 years, it has worked to be the safety net for our 40206 neighborhood and Louisville.  

Now UCHM is asking you to be its safety net. The $30,000 UCHM raises in this campaign means it will be able to meet the needs of more people who come through its doors. Last year, UCHM had to turn away about 500 people when it ran out of funds.
