EHS Band!

Hello, my name is Blake Scrogham. I play percussion in our band program at Eastern High School. I started playing percussion in 7th grade, and I am currently in my junior year. I first started band because I needed another elective and I had been to all my aunts band concerts growing up and knew it was a really cool community to be a part of. I first started with playing trumpet before realizing it wasn't for me and that's when I switched to percussion. It was the best decision I have ever made and I have made so many amazing friends and amazing memories since I made that decision. My freshmen year, I joined marching band and I saw the drumline for the first time. I saw the center snare, and I knew that's what I wanted to do. I've been working towards that goal ever since. I first started on xylophone, and then I played bass 1, and finally this year I have achieved my goal. After 2 years of practicing and learning, I made center snare. Marching band season isn't even halfway over and I can already say without a doubt, this has been the most fun time of my life. My personal goal is to make snare in drum corps after I graduate high school. I'd like to go to college to major in music education with a minor in philosophy. First I want to start with being percussion staff for a few schools and work my way up to eventually be a high school or college band director. This band program has helped me so much with learning leadership, discipline, and many other strong qualities that will help me throughout my life. Most important of all, band has helped me find myself and the type of person I want to be in my life, along with the goals I'd like to achieve in life.
