One of the things I love most about Highlands Community Ministries is that it gives people a way to do good.
I see it in the Tai Chi instructors who genuinely want to help people improve their balance and avoid dangerous falls. I see it in our friends at The Outlook Inn, who consistently show up with food drives, hygiene item drives, donations, and support for our pantry. I see it in Meals on Wheels volunteers who have been showing up for more than 25 years.
Again and again, I have watched people use HCM as a vehicle for care. They bring food. They give money. They teach classes. They deliver meals. They stock shelves. They make phone calls. They show up for neighbors they may never even meet.
In the midst of so much that feels frightening and uncertain, HCM reminds me that there are so many good people in the world. I am grateful that my work surrounds me with these kinds of people. They make me better. They remind me what community can be.
That is why I’m raising money for HCM. Because whether someone needs meals, groceries, rent assistance, or simply a place to turn, HCM is one of the places where the safety net becomes real.
We are the safety net. And you can be, too.

We Are the Safety Net
When larger systems fall short, neighbors step forward.
Across Louisville, more of our neighbors are facing impossible choices. Older adults are waiting for meals. Families are struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and groceries. Public support is becoming less certain at the very moment local need is growing.
At Highlands Community Ministries, we believe a safety net is not just a program or a policy. It is people.
It is the volunteer delivering meals to an older adult who lives alone. It is the donor who helps a family stay housed after an unexpected crisis. It is the neighbor who makes sure the pantry shelves are stocked. It is the community that says, “You are not alone.”
This Give for Good Louisville, HCM is raising $45,000 to respond where the need is greatest. Your gift may help provide meals for older adults, groceries for families, help with rent or utilities, or care for a neighbor who does not know where else to turn.
One of the stories guiding us this year is the story of Florence, a 95-year-old neighbor served through Meals on Wheels. For Florence, this program was never just about food. It was about dignity, consistency, relationship, and being known by name. Her story reminds us that no neighbor should disappear into a waiting list, a budget cut, or a system that has grown too thin to hold them.
The safety net is only strong when we hold it together.
Whether you give $10, $50, $100, or more, your gift helps HCM show up for neighbors who cannot afford to wait.
Give today and be part of the care our neighbors are counting on.
We are the safety net. And you can be, too.
