Lauri's We Are the Safety Net Fundraiser

One of my favorite quotes is by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy who stated:

"To whom much is given, much is required"

As some of you know I have been involved with Highland Community Ministries (HCM) for over 20 years.  I have been involved in a board capacity/ advisory council as well as some of the services they offer for people in the 40204 and 40205 zip codes.  My favorite program HCM provides is helping keep people housed with help for rental assistance, LG&E and water bills.  

Please help me by supporting this wonderful organization by donating during the Give for Good fundraiser. Because of this, I'm raising $700 to keep families from ending up on the streets. Will you join me in keeping them housed?

We Are the Safety Net

When larger systems fall short, neighbors step forward.

Across Louisville, more of our neighbors are facing impossible choices. Older adults are waiting for meals. Families are struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and groceries. Public support is becoming less certain at the very moment local need is growing.

At Highlands Community Ministries, we believe a safety net is not just a program or a policy. It is people.

It is the volunteer delivering meals to an older adult who lives alone. It is the donor who helps a family stay housed after an unexpected crisis. It is the neighbor who makes sure the pantry shelves are stocked. It is the community that says, “You are not alone.”

This Give for Good Louisville, HCM is raising $45,000 to respond where the need is greatest. Your gift may help provide meals for older adults, groceries for families, help with rent or utilities, or care for a neighbor who does not know where else to turn.

One of the stories guiding us this year is the story of Florence, a 95-year-old neighbor served through Meals on Wheels. For Florence, this program was never just about food. It was about dignity, consistency, relationship, and being known by name. Her story reminds us that no neighbor should disappear into a waiting list, a budget cut, or a system that has grown too thin to hold them.

The safety net is only strong when we hold it together.
