Butterflies have come to represent the beauty of hope and transformation. The Camberwell Beauty butterfly, or Mourning Cloak, inspired the name for the grief sanctuary. The blue and gold of the butterfly’s wings beautifully represent the stunning blue eyes and blonde hair of Kaytryn Dianna Parrish. She is the daughter of our co-founders, Kelly and Mark Parrish, and she is the reason Camberwell Grief Sanctuary exists. Kaytryn’s beautiful spirit, gentle heart, and love for others inspire us, and her desire to make the world better provides the foundation for the work we do.
Mark and Kelly lost 19-year-old Kaytryn in a tragic automobile accident in 2012. Their vision for Camberwell, founded in 2019, was born from their personal grief struggle. They dreamed of creating a place where grievers could feel understood and safe, and they wanted to build programs to help people move forward through grief.
Grief affects all things—heart, mind, body, and spirit. Camberwell offers help in each of those areas; it’s a holistic approach in a beautiful setting, where grievers can heal. You don’t have to work to fit in or to be understood. There is no pre-determined path or formula to wholeness and healing.
Overwhelming research shows that connecting to nature is vital to health and healing. We believe that nature is beautiful, powerful, and therapeutic. The sanctuary is situated on 228 beautiful acres that bring a sense of calm and allow space to breathe deeply. You’re safe here to take a walk through the trails, sit in a quiet place surrounded by trees, listen to the birds sing, or watch the butterflies dance.
We are a community of people who have known the deep grief that comes from loss, yet still found hope. And we know there is power in shared experience.
