Formed in late 2015, The Chamber Theatre explores and reimagines classic texts and stories, reintroducing them to the public through a contemporary and local lens. Through high-quality, small-scale theatre that is intimate, personal, and engages directly with the audience, we revive some texts and take others beyond the received understanding of what they are to explore contemporary experiences.
Since our foundation, The Chamber Theatre has evolved to work in non-traditional theatre spaces, to engage with audiences, and to create new and original work from classic theatre. As we continue to evolve into our 10th year, we aim to continue to produce work that cannot be seen elsewhere in Louisville; to work with and to give opportunities to more artists; and to tour our work across the region and further beyond.
HOW YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS THE CHAMBER THEATRE
The Chamber Theatre is not a company built to be commercial, but to take risks. Our company is designed to be a place for directors, designers, and actors to be be artists, and to work together to achieve artistic goals together. it is a place to take risks, to explore the medium of theatre and performance, and to experiment with form and presentation. It is a place to engage directly with the audience, and to re-evaluate our thinking about how we engage with each other in our daily lives. And above all, it must be a place where access is affordable for people of all backgrounds and budgets.
As a theatre company with these goals, and one that emphasizes small scale work, it can be a challenge to raise funds to pay our artists. While our work does not appeal to all theatre goers, we feel it is important for any city to have a place like ours for theatre artists to develop in, for people to experiment. It is only through stretching our limits, and exploring our abilities as artists that we can glimpse our potential and determine how to reach it.
