Help Us Restore a Place That Makes Our Work Possible

This year, we’re hoping to raise $25,000 through Give for Good Louisville to begin significant repairs on the Auxier Center gym workshop in Floyd County, Kentucky.

Our workshop is housed inside the 100-year-old former Auxier High School gym, a building that has served the community for generations. Years of age, combined with the harsh mountain weather, have taken a toll. The floor has begun to rot, creating structural issues that now threaten the integrity of the entire building.

Our $25,000 Give for Good goal is just the beginning. Over the coming year, we will launch a larger fundraising campaign and partner with individual donors, foundations, and businesses to raise the additional funds needed to complete this major repair.

Why does this building matter so much? Because it helps make our Appalachia program possible.

Last year, as in most years, we welcomed 1,100 volunteers from across the United States who traveled to Appalachia on immersion trips to serve alongside our neighbors. Together, these volunteers help make critical home repairs possible, including wheelchair ramps, accessible bathrooms, interior and exterior winterization, roof repairs, and other projects that allow people to remain safe and independent in their homes.

The Auxier Center workshop is an essential part of that work. It provides a place for volunteers to work on projects when rain or cold weather keeps them from working outside, and it gives us much-needed space to store lumber, tools, and other materials needed for the many plumbing and home-repair projects we complete throughout the year.

Repairs to a 100-year-old building aren’t always easy to fit into an organization’s regular operating budget. But without a safe and functional workshop, our ability to serve our neighbors is at risk.
