Inclusion Shouldn’t End at Graduation

At Kentucky Advocates for Inclusion & Accessibility (KAIA), we believe inclusion is more than making sure someone has a seat at the table -  it’s making sure they have the support, communication, opportunities, and access they need to fully participate.

We continue to support parents and families navigating the special education process, helping them understand their rights, prepare for IEP meetings, advocate for appropriate services, and make sure their children have meaningful access to education.

But our work has grown beyond the school years.

Today, KAIA is building a more inclusive Kentucky across the lifespan through Fully Charged Futures and Fully Charged Coffee - creating opportunities for disabled young adults to build skills, contribute to their communities, and be recognized for what they can do.

Fully Charged Futures: Building Skills. Creating Opportunities.

Too often, disabled teens and young adults leave school with few opportunities to continue developing job skills, building confidence, or participating meaningfully in their communities.

Fully Charged Futures was created to change that.

Through hands-on work experiences and community-based opportunities, teens and young adults are developing practical skills, exploring their interests, contributing to real projects, and gaining experience that can help prepare them for greater independence and employment.

This isn't about creating activities to keep people busy. It's about creating real opportunities to work, contribute, connect, and be valued.

Fully Charged Coffee: A Cup With a Purpose

Fully Charged Coffee grew from that same belief.

What started as a fundraising idea has become an opportunity for disabled young adults to participate in meaningful work, from preparing coffee orders and applying labels to helping manage coffee stations, 

interacting with customers, and being part of a growing business.

Our coffee stations bring people together while creating visible, community-based opportunities for skill development, employment experience, and connection. We partner with Generous Coffee to keep our Fully Charged Coffee stations stocked and refilled, giving businesses and their employees great coffee while helping fuel KAIA's mission.

We are also grateful that our partnership with Generous Coffee allows us to sell their coffee in Fully Charged Coffee-branded bags as an ongoing fundraiser. Every bag sold and every cup poured helps create opportunities for inclusion, skill development, and community participation.

What looks like a simple cup or bag of coffee is helping build a more inclusive community.

From IEPs to Employment and Everything In Between

KAIA's work now spans much more of a person's life.

We help families navigate the special education system and advocate for the supports their children need.

We help schools and educators create more inclusive environments.

We work with businesses and community organizations to identify accessibility barriers and develop practical solutions.

And through Fully Charged Futures and Fully Charged Coffee, we're creating opportunities for disabled young adults to build skills, contribute, and be seen as capable members of their communities.

Because inclusion shouldn't have an expiration date.

A child who needs an advocate in elementary school may become a young adult looking for meaningful work. A student who needs communication support may grow into an adult who wants to participate in their community. A family navigating an IEP today may need accessibility resources years from now.

KAIA is here for all of it.
