LOUMED Foundation

The LOUMED Foundation is the charitable arm of the Louisville Medical and Education District (LOUMED), the 22-block hub in downtown Louisville where thousands of people each day receive lifesaving care, research groundbreaking advancements, pursue an education, support a loved one, or go to work.  

LOUMED is a vital destination, home to our region’s leading hospitals and universities. While they are dedicated to delivering world-class healthcare and education, LOUMED exists to strengthen the surrounding district itself—creating connected, welcoming public spaces, enhancing safety and accessibility, and fostering partnerships and place-based initiatives that no single institution can accomplish alone.

Through community support, the LOUMED Foundation funds the vital programs and public spaces that make everyone's daily experience in the district better – whether you’re a patient, family member, healthcare worker, student, faculty member, resident or employee within our diverse and critical district. When LOUMED thrives, the entire region benefits. 

Here are some key initiatives your gift will support:

• LOUMED Ambassadors – LOUMED’s Ambassador Program is the district’s front line of hospitality, safety and support. Every day, ambassadors are on the sidewalks helping visitors find medical offices, guiding families to restaurants or walking someone safely to their car. They keep public spaces clean, welcoming and easy to navigate. They are always ready to assist patients, students and employees. Your gift supports the everyday efforts that create a cleaner, safer and more inviting district for everyone. 

• Ronald McDonald House Shuttle – Access to healthcare means supporting families during their most challenging moments. Through our partnership with Ronald McDonald House Louisville, the LOUMED Shuttle creates a direct link between the house and key facilities, including Norton Children’s Hospital, Frazier Rehab Institute, the Norton Novak Center and UofL Hospital. This service helps guests easily navigate between locations so they can focus on their children. Your gift removes transportation barriers and keeps families connected to essential care.

• LOUMED Commons – LOUMED Commons is a one-acre public park located in the heart of the district. This green space provides an important and welcoming place for people to enjoy the outdoors and take a moment in a busy urban health care environment. The park features shaded seating, flexible gathering areas and native plantings to support a healthier Louisville. It serves as a community hub, frequently hosting programs, food trucks and other events. Your gift sustains the maintenance, upkeep and programming at this welcoming public space where our entire district thrives.
