Louisville Climate Action Network

Louisville Climate Action Network (LCAN) empowers our community with practical, cost-cutting solutions to fight the climate crisis.

We advocate on behalf of more than 3,300 members and our growing network, which consists of 70 entities – 37 non-profit groups, 17 for-profit businesses, 12 faith-based organizations, and four educational institutions – all concerned about climate change, public health and affordable utilities.

For the past 19 years, LCAN has offered reliable, experience-based guidance in the following areas of programming:

  • Strategic ADVOCACY for smarter public policies to reduce carbon pollution and cut costs. Just weeks ago, we collaborated to convince our Metro Council to adopt a 180-day moratorium on new data centers.
  • Technical SERVICES to help non-profit organizations become more energy efficient. Over the past four years, we have helped nearly 60 local nonprofits to “spend less on utilities, more on mission.” With our guidance, one recent nonprofit cut its power bill by 33%; our most successful project to date lowered that nonprofit’s LG&E bills 63%!
  • Action-inspiring EDUCATION through our website, e-newsletter, book club and B4UBuy workshops. Our next workshop, hosted by Habitat for Humanity later this month, will show low-income folks how to insulate their homes affordably.

Some testimonials from non-profits whom LCAN has served:

La Casita Center:  LCAN replaced over 130 fluorescent tube lamps with LEDs for us. This upgrade would not have been possible without LCAN’s initiative and guidance. The immediate improvement in lighting has been excellent! We look forward to much longer life for our lighting, lower power consumption, and lower operating costs.

St. John Center:  LCAN’s relamping project made St. John Center a brighter and safer space for both staff and clients. They only relamped part of our building and we’re already saving $750 annually.

Cabbage Patch Settlement House:  LCAN’s support for relamping our gymnasium with energy efficient, long-lasting LED lamps has made this popular space brighter and more welcoming. Overhead costs and maintenance time are lower, because LEDs use less electricity and the tube lamps don’t need to be replaced as often.

Neighborhood House:  We are extremely grateful for our partnership with LCAN. With your technical guidance, we were able to upgrade the lighting in our Child Development Center, providing both staff and children with a warmer, more welcoming environment.
