Who We Are

The Louisville Guitar Society was originally founded in the 1960s. Over the next two decades, a major concerts series flourished as the society grew in membership and local interest, until the 1980s when funding was reduced and the majority of its leadership retired. Throughout the 1990s the society existed primarily as an extension of the guitar programs in the Louisville area with no membership, until 2009 when the community decided to rejuvenate the society and committed to create programs to support the guitarists in our community from those just starting their musical journeys to professional guitarists.

The Louisville Guitar Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to promoting guitar music to people of all cultures, ages, and abilities in the Greater Louisville area through concerts, masterclasses, and workshops.

What We Do

Providing class-based guitar instruction for all through the LGS Community Outreach Program. Supporting and raising public awareness for guitar-related events and issues in the Louisville area. Creating a network and resources for guitarists and guitar aficionados in the region.

On our website, you'll find info on all our events and programs including the Louisville Guitar Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble Invitational, and our 2026-2027 Concert Season full of performances from both world class guitarists and amazing local professional and amateur guitarists.

One of biggest programs yet is our local Middle School Guitar Clubs! And thanks to you, in 2025 we inaugurated our second ever middle school guitar club at Myzeek Middle School. Between Myzeek, and our long running, Noe Middle School Guitar club, we were able to serve 16 students across both projects. One of the most important highlights is that your donations allowed us to buy 20 guitars, gig bags, footstools, and sets of strings which were essential for the proper functioning of the clubs. Thanks to these efforts, along with having prepared the kids to successfully perform 2 concerts, LGS exercised its mission of immersing Louisville’s youth into the arts and learning, allowing them to shape their experiences and pursue of lifelong artistic appreciation.

This Give for Good, our goal is to raise $5,200 in order to start a 3rd club and continue supporting our current guitar clubs. Middle School Guitar Clubs are a wonderful way to get involved and start a lifelong journey with music.
