The National Stem Cell Foundation funds adult stem cell and regenerative medicine research, underwrites the National STEM Scholar Program for middle school science teachers inspiring the next generation of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) pioneers nationwide and covers copays and deductibles for children of limited means participating in clinical trials for rare diseases.

Research:  We partner with large national organizations to fund promising research and clinical trials in four focus areas: neurodegenerative disease, autoimmune disease, rare childhood disorders and regenerative repair. By partnering with experts in each focus area, we eliminate duplication and double the impact of donor dollars by funding larger projects for greater impact.

Education:  We're creating tomorrow's STEM pioneers by funding the National STEM Scholar Program, a collaboration between the National Stem Cell Foundation and the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University. The National STEM Scholar Program provides advanced STEM training, national network-building, project funding and year-long mentorship for science teachers motivating students at the tipping point of lifelong science interest — middle school. Now it its 10th year, there are 100 National STEM Scholars representing 37 states. 93% teach in public schools, 44% teach in mid- to high-poverty schools and 40% teach in communities with a population under 15,000. Collectively, these teachers will have reached more than 190,000 middle school students in the U.S. by June 2026.

Advocacy:  We help cover insurance deductibles and copays for children participating in potentially life-saving clinical trials for rare diseases when those out-of-pocket costs are beyond a family's means. Our Pediatric Promise Fund in the Pediatric Transplant and Cellular Therapy program at Duke University has now helped over 230 children participate in clinical trials for rare diseases and childhood cancers.
