Sweet Evening Breeze

Sweet Evening Breeze is a non-profit that remains committed to providing LGBTQ+ affirming services and support for young adults ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness in Louisville, Ky. In addition to providing emergency and transitional housing, we aim to empower our clients by connecting them to vital resources and through the facilitation of community engagement, education, and mutual aid. We are a grassroots organization that relies on community support like yours and this year for Give for Good we are hoping to raise funds for our general operations expenses which include running the following programs:

Sweet Evening Breeze Services:

• Transitional housing - Trager House (est. 2024)

• Emergency hotel vouchers

• Utility and rental assistance

• Transportation assistance

• Free therapy and case management

• Drop-in pantry: Food, clothing, and hygiene supplies

• Free HIV testing

• Street outreach

• Support groups for parents and gender non-conforming people

• Free trainings on inclusivity for local housing agencies and community partners

Why Our Work is Needed:

LGBTQ+ individuals continue to  experience homelessness and housing instability at a higher rate than their cisgender and heterosexual peers. This is due to a variety of factors, including increased discrimination, lower average incomes, familial rejection, and employment instability. LGBTQ+ people are also more likely to experience violence while they are homeless and are less likely to feel safe in traditional shelter environments. These risks are heightened for LGBTQ+ people who have other marginalized identities, including trans people, people of color, disabled people, and immigrants.

Sweet Evening Breeze is the first and only organization in the state of KY that offers services specifically for LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness. As an agency that receives no federal funding, Sweet Evening Breeze depends on financial support from our community, which includes you. As inflation continues to rise and government programs continue to be cut, our services become more and more crucial. We appreciate your gift at any level!
