Since 1995, Bluegrass Land Conservancy (BLC) has saved over 38,000 acres of our iconic landscape from future development. Our work at Bluegrass Land Conservancy helps ensure that the beauty of the Bluegrass and critical agricultural lands remain intact for future generations.  With a goal to permanently protect and steward lands necessary for agriculture viability and community character in our region, Bluegrass Land Conservancy works on a daily basis with landowners to conserve land through voluntary conservation easements.

Serving the Louisville Area and Beyond
Ten properties and over 4,000 acres across Oldham, Jefferson, and Shelby Counties have been preserved thanks to land owners passionate about protecting their acreage from being turned into commercial and industrial developments. Among these include Cardinal Ridge, Fern Lea, and Tirbracken. Each owned by American Life and Accident Insurance Company of Kentucky which all have frontage along the Ohio River. Each of these farms lies within the Central Hardwoods Bird Conservation Region, an area recognized for its importance to grassland birds and migratory species.

These conservation easements ensure that the land remains protected from development, supporting clean water, biodiversity, and agricultural viability in one of Kentucky’s fastest-growing counties.

We focus on preserving wildlife habitat, natural resources, farmland and fresh food, clean waterways, iconic landscapes, and cultural, scenic and historic locations. We elevate the importance of land as part of our regional identity, ensuring a high quality of life for current and future generations.
