Who We Are
The Mission of Dreams With Wings is to empower children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, including autism, as they enhance their strengths, contribute to their community and live a lifetime of purpose.
Dreams With Wings was started in 2000 by a group of individuals who wanted to improve the quality of services, programs and community inclusion for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism. Today we support over 300 individuals. We are located in the heart of the Highlands and led by Executive Director Jenifer Frommeyer. Hear how it all began in this short video from our dreambuilder/leader Jenifer here.
Our Programs
As a non-profit organization, Dreams With Wings relies on the generosity of individuals like you. When you contribute to our organization, you are not only making a difference in Dreams With Wings as a whole, you are also enhancing the lives of each individual that participates in our programs.
Our team in Therapy Services is ready to collaborate with our participants to tailor to specific needs with diverse offerings including behavioral therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
You will see these Dreamers all around town in our robust Adult Services programs. With a variety of options, Dreams With Wings is dedicated to supporting people to live full lives in the following ways:
Residential
Dreams With Wings supports individuals through staffed residences where adults with similar interests live together in one house and receive 24-hour support. Housemates have their own bedroom and share the rest of the living space.
We also provide supported apartments, with plans tailored to meet specific needs such as paying bills, grocery shopping, housekeeping, laundry, etc. Twenty-four-hour support is not considered necessary for these individuals.
Adult Day
The mission of the Dream Builders Day Program is to enhance daily living, communication, and social skills through community interaction and on-site activities. Planned activities are based on our clients' interest and choice and include book Club, expressive arts, computer literacy/technology, community integration, and more! Coming soon: an expanded adult day program with a focus on adults ages 20-35, with an emphasis in art.
Community Living Supports
Dreams With Wings provides support and training to empower an individual to build life skills and a natural support system by joining a club, group, association, church, business, or other organization in the community.
Respite
respite (NOUN) : an interval of rest or relief
Dreams With Wings offers respite supports, or short-term relief for primary caregivers for clients in our children, youth, and adult services.
Supported Employment
Community employment opportunities allow people with disabilities a way to contribute, use their talents and enjoy working.
Youth Programs provide individual centered programming and services to folks aged 7-29, with a focus on building life and social skills.
Our after school programs include: drama classes with performances, art classes with gallery shows, weekly social group events, movement classes, community-based social skills classes, and more!
Our programs are led by talented professionals from arts organizations that include the Louisville Ballet, Walden Theatre, StageOne Family Theatre, Kentucky Shakespeare, individual teaching artists, and professional educators because their expertise results in high quality programming. The enormous interest in the arts from our Youth Program Participants inspired the new program WingSpace which offers arts programming to all ages of our participants. This program continues to grow thanks to supporters like you, and collaborations with the brilliant artists in our region.
The Department of Behavior and Learning provides Positive Behavior Support services to children, teens and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities. We provide integrative services for the whole family and participants' care giving teams as well, to increase support and overall success with each individual.
