Make a Difference
Create a world that is inclusive, caring and with powerful conflict solving skills. Respect the beauty of all. Do no harm to others. We are called at this time in our community's history to do all we can to expand compassion, nonviolence and loving-kindness.
Human beings are innately compassionate, but life's challenges tend to add a layer of dust that tends to obscure natural compassion for those who are outside the circle of our family and friends.
And yet, contemporary neuroscience documents the mirroring-effect: the more we see others "do good" - whether large actions or everyday care - the more likely that we will extend loving-kindness, non-harm and compassion as well.
We Are Drepung Gomang Center for Engaging Compassion
DGCEC is both a Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center and a non-religious Compassion Education Center. We provide a doorway into the practice of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy with rituals, retreats, classes, and teachings that are facilitated by Geshe Kalsang Rapgyal. We are the North American Seat of Drepung Gomang Monastery in India.
The offerings of our Compassion Education Center rest in the teachings of Universal Human Values as shared by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. DGCEC provides classes and events that are non-religious or inter-religious, focused on growing innate compassion, finding a calm center through meditation, expanding an understanding of nonviolence tools, and exploring just how interconnected we are. We provide nonviolence symposia for high school students, the internationally renowned Compassion Cultivation Training for adults, as well as "12 Days Toward Peace" for people of all ages. DGCEC is the catalyst of the new city-wide movement called Nonviolent Louisville.
