Dear Friend of Fairness,
We need you more than ever in the fight for LGBTQ equality. Every week there’s a new attack on our community from President Trump and his awful administration, and each year now, the Kentucky General Assembly is finding new horrendous ways to strip LGBTQ Kentuckians’ rights.
We won’t back down and we’ll keep fighting until we win.
Resistance in perilous times can take on many forms, and you’ll see the Fairness Campaign continue to stretch to meet some of our community’s most urgent needs.
Earlier this year, Fairness stepped up to cover expedited passport fees to help as many transgender Kentuckians as possible obtain a federal ID with an accurate gender marker. We continue to help cover court fees for legal name changes. This summer, as the Kentucky General Assembly’s law banning state Medicaid reimbursement for hormone replacement therapy went into effect, Fairness doubled the Kentucky Health Justice Network’s transgender copayment fund to ensure every Kentuckian continues to have access to the medicine they need.
We’ll continue to meet their cruelty with compassion.
Will you help us do everything we can to protect LGBTQ Kentuckians with a “Give for Good Louisville” gift on Thursday, September 18? It’s the biggest day of local giving hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville and it’s so easy to participate! Consider a gift of $50, $500, or $5,000 to help us reach our $50,000 goal.
Thank you for digging in alongside us during these difficult days. Our future will be brighter and more fair because we’ll make it so, together.
Sincerely,
Chris Hartman, he/him
Executive Director
The Fairness Campaign is Kentucky’s LGBTQ advocacy organization founded in 1991 by 10 Louisvillians. Its primary goal is comprehensive civil rights legislation prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and to dismantle systemic racism.
With the help of the Fairness Campaign, 24 Kentucky communities have enacted Fairness Ordinances prohibiting LGBTQ discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations, including the state’s two largest cities—Louisville and Lexington—the capital Frankfort, and small Appalachian town of Vicco. Today, the Fairness Campaign works in communities all across Kentucky to advance LGBTQ rights and acceptance through legislative advocacy and public education.
