With inflation and rising grocery costs, food rescue is crucial. Kentucky Harvest needs your help to feed those in need in our community. We save food headed for the landfill and deliver it to food-insecure people in Kentuckiana. Last year, we rescued over 2.5 million pounds of food from nearly 200 food partners, providing over 2.3 million meals to 87 local nonprofits, saving them over $4 million to strengthen their programs and our community.

Our mission is to end local hunger by connecting with food donors and engaging volunteers to move excess food to those in need. This helps nonprofits spend more on essential programs, strengthening our community. The vision for Kentucky Harvest is to continue to develop local partnerships by connecting food companies with charities while leveraging our network of volunteers to focus on reducing food waste and getting usable food to the hungry in our local community.

Food insecurity affects 1 in 7 people in Kentuckiana. Please donate during Give for Good to help people in Jefferson, Oldham, and Shelby counties in Kentucky, and Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana. Rescued food also stays out of landfills, reducing our carbon footprint. It's a win-win!

Who We Are

Kentucky Harvest has a mission to end local hunger by connecting with food donors and engaging volunteers to rescue excess food and move it from those who have it to those in need. We have rescued over 87 million pounds of food since our inception and helped provide millions of meals to people who are food insecure. We've also saved those homeless shelters, addiction recovery centers, children's homes, churches and partners countless millions of dollars that they were able to use for their important programs. Incredibly, we accomplish all of this with a staff of just 3 employees and a small fleet of delivery vehicles. The work of picking up and delivering food is executed by a network of non-paid volunteers, community service individuals, and is driven by app technology.

Kentucky Harvest was started in 1987 with the goal of collecting leftover and surplus food from restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, companies, schools, and food drives and delivering it to shelters, churches, food pantries and other organizations where it is needed. This is food that would otherwise go to waste. Quite simply we move food from people who don’t need it to those who depend on it daily and we do this free of charge. We are different from similar types of non-profit organizations because we are not a food pantry. Food that we rescue today can be on someone's dinner table tonight.
