SUPPORT COSMIC HARMONIES: KENNETH V. YOUNG

Known for his bright orbs of color, Washington Color School artist Kenneth V. Young (1933–2017) experimented with painting techniques throughout his career, creating work that explored the interconnectedness of nature, the cosmos, music, and the human experience. Cosmic Harmonies: Kenneth V. Young will be on view at KMAC Contemporary Art Museum beginning in January 2027. This traveling exhibition brings together three major styles that dominated Young’s work during the 1960s and 1970s and offers new insight into the ideas and curiosity that shaped his creative process.

Guest curated by Sarah Battle, an independent scholar on Young and archive collections consultant at the Ed Hamilton Studios and Visitor Center, the exhibition provides an opportunity for Louisville audiences to experience the work of an important American artist and discover new connections within his abstract paintings. 

A Hometown Legacy

Opening in January 2027, Cosmic Harmonies: Kenneth V. Young coincides with the tenth anniversary of Young’s passing. Young was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1933, and his formative years as a painter in Louisville significantly shaped his lifelong studio practice. The exhibition here will emphasize the artist’s Kentucky roots and honors his enduring artistic legacy while bringing his work home to the community where his story began.
