Somali Community of Louisville Inc. is 501(c) (3) nonprofit status. We have worked with various professional groups to begin. Since its founding in 1998 the SCL has been a leading voice for Somalians in Louisville and working very closely with Louisville Metro Police Department, Office of Globalization, Kentucky youth works, Muslim Americans for Compassion, Iroquois library, Buckner ymca sports arena, Catholic Charities, Jefferson County Public schools, Somali business owners, Amazon, Integrity Staffing, Global Human Project and Kentucky Refugee Ministries. According to Abanur Saidi the resettlement manager in Catholic charities stated that Somali population is 10,000-12,000 here in Louisville and more immigrants are coming every month. The number of Somalis in Louisville continues to grow by 3-7% annually. Other immigrant communities settling in Louisville face many challenges relative to drugs, violence, housing, employment, education, and healthcare. SCL will continue to provide ongoing support.
