Help us bring together 1,000 donors so more 4th and 5th graders can discover, create, and experience music firsthand.

For generations of Louisville students, MakingMUSIC has been a first introduction to the Louisville Orchestra. A musician walking into their classroom. The excitement of boarding a bus for The Kentucky Center. The first time they hear a full orchestra fill the concert hall. The moment they get to conduct, create their own music, or see professional musicians bring something they learned in class to life.

This Give for Good Louisville, your gift directly supports those experiences. And thanks to a generous anonymous supporter, gifts will be matched through a $90,000 matching opportunity.

Your support can make an immediate difference:

• $10 sends one student to a MakingMUSIC concert

• $25 provides a free ticket and parking for a student to attend a rehearsal

• $50 provides a ticket and transportation for a student to attend a matinee concert

• $100 provides materials for a school workshop

• $350 provides a classroom visit from a Louisville Orchestra musician

• $500 provides two buses for one school to attend a MakingMUSIC performance

• $1,000 sends the 4th and 5th graders from one elementary school to a MakingMUSIC performance

A gift might put a student in the concert hall for the first time. It might introduce them to the instrument they eventually decide to play. It might show a young composer that something they imagined can become real music, or simply give a child an experience they will remember years from now.

That is the legacy of MakingMUSIC. Many of our audiences members still remember attending as children themselves. Some went on to become musicians, teachers, artists, board members, staff, and lifelong concertgoers. Others simply remember the feeling of hearing an orchestra live for the first time.

About MakingMUSIC:

Founded in 1940, MakingMUSIC is the Louisville Orchestra’s longest-standing education program and a beloved part of Louisville’s music education tradition.

Through a longstanding partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools, 4th and 5th grade students participate at no cost, connecting classroom learning with unforgettable experiences alongside Louisville Orchestra musicians. Students explore instruments, conduct, compose, ask questions, hear music up close, and experience the full Orchestra live.

Today, MakingMUSIC also includes opportunities like the Young Composers Program and RAP School, giving students even more ways to see their own ideas, stories, and creativity reflected in music.
