Kentucky Harvest Inc

A nonprofit organization

With inflation and the rising cost of groceries, food rescue is more important now than ever! Kentucky Harvest needs YOU to help us feed people in need in our community. We rescue food that is destined for a landfill and deliver it to feed people in Kentuckiana who are food insecure. We rescued over 2.7 million pounds of food in our area last year from 190 food donors and delivered it to 87 local organizations to help provide over 2.3 million meals to people and save those homeless shelters, recovery centers, children’s centers, and churches over $4.4 million that they were able to use to make their programs and our community stronger!

Our mission is to end local hunger by connecting with food donors and engaging volunteers to rescue excess food and move it from those who have it to those in need. The result is that the nonprofits we support have extra revenue to spend on their important community programs, which strengthen our community!

Food insecurity is a real problem across Kentuckiana, with 1 in 6 people reporting being hungry or suffering from food insecurity. Please consider making a donation today during Give for Good to help people in Jefferson, Oldham, and Shelby counties in Kentucky, as well as Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana to have access to food. As an added bonus, food that is rescued stays out of our landfills reducing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. It's a WIN-WIN!

Who We Are

Kentucky Harvest has a mission to end local hunger by connecting with food donors and engaging volunteers to rescue excess food and move it from those who have it to those in need. We rescued over 2 million pounds of food in our area last year and delivered it to nearly 80 organizations to help provide over 1.8 million meals to people and save those shelters, addiction recovery centers, children's homes, churches and partners over $3.6 million that they were able to use for their programs. Incredibly, we accomplish all of this with a staff of just 2 employees and a small fleet of delivery vehicles. The work of picking up and delivering food is executed by a network of non-paid volunteers and community service individuals.

Kentucky Harvest was started in 1987 with the goal of collecting leftover and surplus food from restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, companies, schools, and food drives and delivering it to shelters, churches, food pantries and other organizations where it is needed. This is food that would otherwise go to waste. Quite simply we move food from people who don’t need it to those who depend on it daily and we do this free of charge. We are different from similar types of non-profit organizations because we are not a food pantry. We pick up food from point A and deliver it to point B the same day.
