General

Hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville, Give for Good Louisville is the biggest online giving day in the Kentuckiana region. Since 2014, Give for Good Louisville has mobilized over 172,000 individuals to invest nearly $70 million in local organizations from Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, and Spencer counties in Kentucky, and Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Southern Indiana.

Give for Good Louisville is a program hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville, a Louisville-based 501(c)(3) public charity.

The 12th Annual Give for Good Louisville is Thursday, September 18, 2025, from Midnight - 11:59 p.m. ET.

GiveForGoodLouisville.org is an easy-to-use online platform that allows users to search and discover local giving opportunities aligned with their passions, empowering them to take an active role in shaping the future of Kentucky and Southern Indiana communities. Anyone can donate, set up monthly donations, find volunteer opportunities, or fundraise for Kentuckiana organizations.

Donors visit GiveForGoodLouisville.org and use the search function at the top of the main webpage to find organizations by cause category, geography, and more. They can look up a specific organization by name to make a donation, or if they’re unsure who to select, they can discover new organizations by the causes they love most.

Donors can also access the site through a direct link sent to them by participating organizations via email or shared on social media using the hashtag #GiveForGoodLou.

Donors can give online beginning Monday, September 15, 2025, through Friday, September 19, at 1 p.m. ET. However, most donors give during the giving day on September 18 as their donations can be matched dollar for dollar by local match opportunities and unlock extra money from the prize pool for their favorite organizations.

As Give for Good Louisville is an online event, the Community Foundation encourages organizations to regularly visit the resources available on www.GiveForGoodLouisville.org. The Foundation will communicate important updates and announcements via email to the Give for Good Louisville emailing list. For updates, reminders, and tips and tricks for the giving day, participating organizations will be added to an participant-only email list using the email addresses listed in their registration form. If you want to add/remove a staff member from the participant-only email list, please send their contact information to info@giveforgoodlouisville.org.

The Foundation will also publicize exciting announcements via our social networks. Follow @cflouisville on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube to stay updated with the latest Giving Day news. Reshare the Community Foundation of Louisville's posts with your online community using the hashtag #GiveForGoodLou

Also, participating organizations are invited to join the Give for Good Louisville Nonprofit Group on Facebook via the Community Foundation of Louisville’s Facebook page (under the “groups” tab) to stay up-to-date with information about the day and share advice with each other.

The Community Foundation of Louisville promotes Give for Good Louisville to a broad audience through local advertising and partnerships with TV, radio, print, and digital media outlets.

Additionally, the Community Foundation spreads the word about Give for Good Louisville to its major donors with charitable funds at the Foundation (aka fundholders) and other philanthropic partners through its digital communications, phone calls, print, radio, TV, and social media channels, garnering millions of print and online impressions.

Through the Know the Good initiative, the Community Foundation of Louisville connects hundreds of participating organizations every year to local media partners while featuring a diverse mix of community voices on its @cflouisville social platforms and Give for Good Louisville live stream with Chris Strub, "The Giving Day Guy." The organizations are selected based on their media preferences, organization size (with priority given to the smallest organizations with the least amount of resources), geographical location, demographics, storytelling fit, and cause type.

Last year, we utilized the promotional power of social media influencers and trended on social media all day. Follow the hashtag #GiveForGoodLou to stay connected to the online activity.

The Community Foundation of Louisville verifies the charitable status of every organization that participates in Give for Good Louisville but does not screen or select organizations based on their charitable purposes or missions. Eligibility is based on providing services in Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, and Spencer counties in Kentucky, or Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Southern Indiana, and an organization's current status as a recognized Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. Therefore, approval of an organization's participation does not constitute an endorsement of the organization or its mission by the Community Foundation of Louisville or any of our partners.

Each organization’s page provides its mission, but not detailed information on all of its programs. For additional research, each organization's page also includes a link to its website, providing more detailed information about its mission and impact.

Participation

Only IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charities in Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Bullitt counties in Kentucky and Clark, Floyd, and Harrison counties in Indiana may participate. If your organization is headquartered in another county, but a significant amount of your work takes place in the eight-county area, you may be eligible to participate; however, you will be asked to provide additional documentation.

Schools and churches with proper IRS documentation or a federal tax identification number/Employer Identification Number (EIN) are eligible to participate.

Programs or projects with a fiscal sponsor may participate but must register as a program of their 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, provide the sponsor’s EIN, and provide proof of the relationship.

All 509(a)(3) supporting organizations must state their designation (type I, II, or III) upon registration - you may be required to provide additional documentation to participate.

Private non-operating foundations may not participate in Give for Good Louisville.

Organizations may register to participate in Give for Good Louisville beginning on June 2, 2025, at GiveForGoodLouisville.org. Local organizations are encouraged to register early to take advantage of the trainings, marketing materials, fundraising strategies, and media opportunities leading up to the big day.

Please note: Organizations can still sign up during a late registration period beginning July 11 at 5:00 p.m. ET, but the annual registration fee doubles during this time and is nonrefundable. The late registration period closes on August 1, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Visit GiveForGoodLouisville.org and complete the online registration form. Once you complete the registration form and pay the annual registration fee, you will receive an email confirmation. If you do not see an email, please check your spam folder before contacting Mightycause's support team at support@mightycause.com or 202.800.1618.

Yes. Give for Good Louisville determines registration fees on a sliding scale based on the gross annual revenue (found on line 12 of IRS 990, or <$50k if filing a 990-N):

  • Tier 1 (< $50,000): $50 / $100 late registration fee

  • Tier 2 ($50,000 - $249,999): $70 / $140 late registration fee

  • Tier 3 ($250,000 - $1,499,999): $150 / $300 late registration fee

  • Tier 4 (≥ $1,500,000): $300 / $600 late registration fee

If you select the wrong registration tier, the Community Foundation of Louisville team will contact you and charge the appropriate fee. Your organization will be allowed to participate once the fee is paid in full and your tier category has been updated.

Registration fees support the operational costs of Give for Good Louisville, expanding the Community Foundation of Louisville's capacity to provide additional resources to the community. Many of the valuable benefits for participating organizations are made possible because of the money raised through registration fees, including:

  • One-on-one consultation
  • Year-round access to a secure and reliable fundraising platform.
  • Live, on-demand tech support leading up to and during the giving day.
  • Professional development opportunities for your staff and board members made available through virtual webinars and the in-person Giving Day Workshop.
  • Increased visibility of your organization's mission and programs through PR and advertising.
  • Shareable marketing materials to help promote your organization's fundraising campaign.

You may pay online with a credit card or bank account. We cannot accept any other form of payment.

Please note that Mightycause will not charge any platform fees on these registration payments, but there will be a $1.50 bank authorization fee for any organization that pays via their bank account.

Check out the Resource Hub for helpful tips and tricks, including marketing templates, fundraising strategies, training opportunities, and more. Using these tools can help you nearly double your donations!

The data shows that Give for Good Louisville is an effective way for organizations to gain new donors, raise money, and increase exposure to a broad audience. However, only you can determine if this online giving event is right for your organization.

Like any fundraising event, it will take dedicated staff time to make the most of Give for Good Louisville; the dollars do not raise themselves! Make sure your organization has someone who can dedicate their time to this effort, is comfortable working in an online environment, and that the timing of the event works well with your organization's other initiatives.

Profile and Platform

Most organizations that exist in the IRS database automatically have an Organization Page created on Mightycause. To see if your organization’s page exists on the new Giving Day platform, try searching in the Search bar at the top of GiveForGoodLouisville.org for your organization’s EIN number. Once you find your organization, you can request access by selecting "Manage This Organization." Please note that you will be prompted to create a user account if you haven't already created one.

Once you receive a confirmation email from Mightycause’s support team, you can access your organization’s page. Here’s how:

  1. Login to your admin account at GiveForGoodLouisville.org by clicking the "Login" button at the top-right corner of the page.
  2. Click your name in the top right-hand corner of the page.
  3. Select your organization from the dropdown menu.
  4. Should be accessing your page as an organization admin!

You’ll know you’re on your organization’s page when you see a dashboard on the left-hand side of the screen.

Anyone who wants to be added as an administrator to your organization page must follow the steps outlined in this helpful support article

This is likely because you have logged in at the wrong place. Organization admins should access their organization profile via GiveForGoodLouisville.org, not Mightycause.com. The GiveForGoodLouisville.org access point allows admins to access their organization's dashboard via the giving event connection which provides them with access to features that an organization not affiliated with a giving event would otherwise have to pay for.

This is likely because you have entered offline donations. Offline donations do not count towards the leaderboards and, therefore, will only show up in your organization's overall totals.

If you have not entered any offline donations and the numbers still don't match, please reach out to the Mightycause support team at support@mightycause.com or click the "?" icon in the bottom right-hand of your screen.

You can view if you've won a prize and the amount awarded via the Prizes page on the Give for Good Louisville website. Any prize(s) you've won will also be visible in your organization's Disbursement Report* following the giving day.

*For more information about your Disbursement Report and Disbursement timing, please review the "When will my organization receive our prize money" question below.

Only the dollars you have raised on the Giving Day platform (including online donations received and offline donations you've inputted) will be reflected in your organization's fundraising total. You will be able to view what prize(s) your organization was awarded and those dollar amounts following Give for Good Louisville when the Mightycause Charitable Foundation has released your funds.

If you opt to receive your money by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), you will receive your prize money along with your online donations from the Mightycause Charitable Foundation on or after September 25. (The actual posting to your bank account will depend on your bank's schedule but is typically no more than 2-3 business days.)

If you opt to receive your disbursements by check, then you will receive those funds after they’ve been cut, signed, and mailed from the Mightycause Charitable Foundation sometime after October 10.

Learn how to set your disbursement preferences here.

For help viewing your disbursement report, check out this helpful support article.

A prize leaderboard combines performance tracking with prize incentives, fostering competition and engagement among participants while making it clear who is leading and what rewards are associated with top positions.

Mightycause’s database is regularly updated from the IRS database of 501(c)(3) public charities. If your organization’s status has changed, your pages may become unverified until the IRS re-lists your organization as approved or until you provide Mightycause recent documentation from the IRS confirming you are still an approved 501(c)(3) public charity.

To confirm your organization’s nonprofit status or request documentation, call the IRS (toll-free) at 1.877.829.5500.

Yes. Once you’ve been approved as an administrator of your organization page, you can add and remove other adminstrators as well as designate lead contacts. You can have up to 10 organization administrators on your organization’s page.

Mightycause has done all the work for you by copying your profile information from the previous Give for Good Louisville to its platform. Once you receive a confirmation email from Mightycause's support team, you will be able to access your organization's page and update your profile easily.

Your organization's profile page is the center of your presence on GiveForGoodLouisville.org. Your profile page should have basic information about your organization, such as your mission statement, contact information, and a gallery where you can upload photos or videos.

To begin editing your page, on the left-hand side dashboard, you'll want to head to "Organization Page." This section will have all of the administrative tools and features you need to customize your page.

This helpful support article provides key tips and best practices for making your organization's page as strong as possible.

Head to your organization page on Give for Good Louisville. Once on your page, copy the URL link in your browser. Share this link with your supporters to bring them to your organization page. From there, supporters can read more about your organization, donate, or set up a peer-to-peer fundraising page.

You may need to clear your browser’s cache history. If that doesn’t work, contact the Mightycause support team directly to reveal those changes. You may contact them by:

  • Filling out a quick form to contact support

  • Emailing the Mightycause support team at support@mightycause.com

  • Calling 202.800.1618

  1. Sign in to your account at GiveForGoodLouisville.org.
  2. Selection "[Organization Name]" from the user icon at the top-right of the page. Once you're logged in as an admin, you'll be able to view the dashboard on the left side of your organization page.
  3. From the dashboard, select "Reports" and then select "Disbursements."

For additional assistance, view this helpful support article.

When checks are not cashed within their 90-day grace period, they are automatically cancelled and re-issued. Please note, there is a $5 service fee per check. There is no re-issuance fee for EFT.

If you would like to request a disbursement be reissued, select the disbursement and click "Request Reissue" in the upper right corner.

Cause categories allow organizations to self-identify within a cause group. Visitors to the Giving Day website can use cause categories to find organizations they are passionate about, and civic partners can make meaningful contributions to a group of organizations that resonate with a company’s support pillars.

Each organization may select one primary cause in the registration form that best reflects its mission and purpose. If the Community Foundation of Louisville finds that an organization has misrepresented its primary cause, it will contact the organization directly and agree to a cause category that accurately reflects its mission and services.

Not sure which cause category to pick for your organization? View the cause category definitions here.

Mightycause is the technology platform that powers Give for Good Louisville. It is a mission-driven, employee-owned business that has served the nonprofit community by helping them with online fundraising and donor engagement since 2006. Mightycause has supported over 150,000 causes and has been the technology partner for hundreds of community-led Giving Days.

Donations made via the Give for Good Louisville platform are complete and final charitable gifts to Mightycause Charitable Foundation. The Mightycause Charitable Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code which maintains a donor-advised fund. A donor-advised fund (“DAF”) is defined by Congress as a public charity that receives completed gifts from donors while allowing them the privilege of advising on the distribution of their grant to other charities and charitable causes.

Donors and Donations

No. Organizations cannot legally give donors cash prizes or tangible gifts (e.g., T-shirts, gift cards, etc.) in exchange for donating to their Give for Good Louisville campaigns. Instead, the Community Foundation of Louisville encourages participating organizations to use the prize pool to motivate donors to give back and thank their donors via phone calls, handwritten notes, etc.

The minimum donation on GiveForGoodLouisville.org is $5. It is recommended that donors give at least $5 or more so that the credit card and platform fees do not exceed the value of the donation itself.

For donors who are giving from their charitable funds at the Community Foundation of Louisville, the minimum donation is $100.

Donations may be made online at GiveForGoodLouisville.org via credit and debit card, ACH transfer, Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, or through an existing charitable fund held at the Community Foundation of Louisville.

Participating organizations may accept gifts by check or cash and upload them onto the Giving Day platform. These will count towards the organization’s overall gift and donor totals but will not count towards prizes or leaderboards.

Also, donations made to participating organizations through social platforms such as Facebook will not count toward the Giving Day totals.

Give for Good Louisville is designed to generate new support, not to pay off existing pledges. Donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a tangible benefit to the donor – including dinner tickets, membership fees, golf fees, admission tickets, or other gifts.

All gifts are tax-deductible, irrevocable, and for the unrestricted use of the nonprofits.

GiveForGoodLouisville.org provides a cost-effective and successful fundraising platform.

Mightycause retains a 2% campaign management fee from all donations.

  • Credit Card: Processing fees are an additional 2.5% + $0.30 for (Mastercard, Visa, Discover, and American Express).
  • ACH Transfer: Users can also make a gift using their ACH checking account. Donations of $100 or more are eligible for ACH transfer and will incur a 1% plus $1.50 flat fee in addition to the 2% platform fee. ACH fees are capped at $5.00 per transaction.

Please note that the Community Foundation of Louisville does not receive any of these fees and that 100% of donations are tax-deductible for the donor.

Donors may opt to cover the processing fees before completing their transaction. Data shows that 90% of donations were completely covered by donors during Give for Good Louisville in 2024, but this is ultimately up to the donor.

Any donations processed outside the Give for Good Louisville donation period are subject to Mightycauses's 4% platform fee, 0.5% brand fee, and 2.9% + $0.30 credit card processing fee on all donations.

Your organization's donation levels will be present on your donation form. To update those suggested levels, head to the left-hand side of your organization dashboard and select "Checkout" > "Donation Form." This is where your nonprofit can set up the basic structure of your donation process.

The sugested donations tool allows you to customize the suggested amounts displayed when a user clicks on the Donate button, and also allows you to add descriptions of those amounts for your donors to see. Setting custom donation suggestions makes it easier for donors to choose how much to donate by pre-loading options for them, and helps push donors to these levels. (For instance, donors giving at a lower level may bump their donation up to $25 from $10, simply because the option was presented to them.)

Mightycause will automatically provide four donation levels, however organizations can add additional levels to their donation form. Please note, the donation widget will only show up to four donation levels. You also have a 60 character limit for the amount descriptions.

To edit a donation level, select the pencil icon associated to the tile.

To add a donation level, select the + tile.

Users will always still have the option of entering custom amounts if they do not wish to use a suggested donation amount.

Donations made via the Give for Good Louisville platform are complete and final charitable gifts to Mightycause Charitable Foundation and are not refundable. The Mightycause Charitable Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, which maintains a donor-advised fund. are batched together and regranted by the Mightycause Charitable Foundation. They offer disbursements via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or check.

EFT

Mightycause encourages all organizations to set up direct deposit, or EFT, for your organization’s disbursements. With EFT, you’ll receive your funds on a twice-monthly schedule.

For the EFT or direct deposit option, nonprofits can expect to receive their donations on the:

— 25th of the month for donations made from the 1st through the 15th of that month.

— 10th of the month for donations made from the 16th of the prior month through the last day of the prior month.

(Actual posting to your bank account will depend on your bank's schedule but is typically no more than 2-3 business days.)

Learn how to set up EFT here.

Check

If you prefer check disbursements, checks for donations made in the previous month will be mailed around the 10th of the month. There is a $5 service fee for each check, so we highly recommend signing up for EFT.

*When checks are not cashed within their 90-day grace period, they are automatically canceled and reissued. Please note the $5 service fee applies to reissued checks as well. There is no re-issuance fee for EFT.

Checks are mailed to the disbursement address listed in our database. This can be viewed in the "Settings" > "Organization" tabs on your dashboard. Scroll down to view the "Legal Name" and "Legal Address" sections.

If you are an administrator for your organization, you can view a donations report online by following these steps:

1. Log-in to your administrative account

2. Select '[Organization Name]' from the user icon at the top-right of the page

3. Select the 'Reports' section on the left-hand dashboard

4. Within the sub-menu select 'Donations' to view donations to your organization.

5. With Mightycause’s donation report, you’re able to view all the information associated with each donation to your organization on Mightycause.

  • Please note, the report will automatically display donations from your last 30 days. If you would to adjust the time range, simply select the dropdown on "Time period."
  • Additionally, you can also filter by "Campaign type" too, to see only those donations from a specific fundraising page or event or team campaign.
  • You can also sort by "Donation type," meaning you can filter to show only recurring donations, offline donations or refunded donations. This is useful for accounting reconciliation, and to segment out different types of donors for future appeals.

6. Mightycause has simplified the screen view of your donor data to show the most important information, but you can still download the full donation details as a .CSV file to view fees, address information and more. Simply select the download icon to download your report.

7. Lastly if a donor needs a donation receipt resent, you can resend the donation receipt by selecting the tool icon next to the corresponding donation.

Navigate to your organization's donations report via the left-hand side of your dashboard and select "Reports" > "Donations."

Filter the donation report by donor name and resend their donation receipt by selecting the tool icon (looks like three dots in a row) next to the corresponding donation.

You will then be prompted to enter the donor's preferred email address and may click "Send" when ready.

The early and late giving periods give donors a second chance to donate when they otherwise would not have been able to or simply forgot. During these donation windows, participating organizations raise hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

Online donations during the early giving period (September 15 – 17) will count towards the match pools and Grand Prizes.

Donations made online during Give for Good Louisville on September 18 will count towards all prizes.

Donations made during the late giving period on September 19 will not count towards any prizes.

Offline gifts (such as cash or check) will not count towards the prizes.

Yes! Offline donations of cash and checks can be entered manually during the early giving period (Sept 15 - 17) and on the Giving Day (Sept 18) and will count towards your organization’s overall total on your Give for Good Louisville campaign page. Offline donations will not count towards prizes or leaderboards.

Mightycause enforces a no-refunds policy, mainly due to the immediacy of tax benefits. Please see Mightycause's Terms of Use for additional information. If you have a special circumstance, you can contact support@mightycause.com to discuss it with one of Customer Support team members.

The donor retention rate is the percentage of donors who give to your organization year after year. You can solve for this number mathematically by calculating ( The number of donors that you retained This Year/ The number of donors that you retained Last Year) * 100 = Retention Rate. However, Mightycause does the math for you! Simply head over to your organization dashboard and select "Overview." Within your Overview section, you will be able to review and track your donor retention rate.

Once you have your retention rate, you'll want to jump into your report to review this information. To access your Retention report, head over to the left-hand side of your organization dashboard and select "Reports" > "Retention." This section allows you to export your list of unretained donors, send individual emails, and much more!

At the top of your Retention report, you are able to filter and create the type of retention report you want.

  • Through Status, you can choose to review your Retained or Not Retained donors.
  • If you would like to search for a particular donor, simply utilize the "Filter by donor" tool.
  • To send an email to a donor select the mail icon on the right side of the corresponding donor. This will open your browser email window. These emails are not sent through the platform.

Matches

Matching gifts (or "matching grants" as Mightycause refers to them) are large donations your organization can use as tools to help you fundraise. Your nonprofit asks a donor (for example, a board member, local business, or community partner) to provide a matching gift to your nonprofit. Then, your nonprofit leverages that matching gift as an incentive to donate to your fundraising campaign by promising that donations will be matched up to the total grant amount. The particulars can vary based on your agreement with the grantor and your fundraising strategy.

When you enter a matching grant on your organization's page, here’s what will happen:

  • When the matching grant is live, donors will see a badge on the Donate button on your profile alerting them that a match is available.
  • Mightycause will auto-calculate how much of the match has been fulfilled.
  • In your Donations Report, you'll be able to see which donations were matched and in what amount.
  • A matching grant summary block will appear on your organization's profile page, listing all live matches and showing the amount still available. (Clicking the badge on the Donate button will take users to the matching grant summary.)

Navigate to your organization page by logging in, clicking your name in the upper right corner, and selecting the desired organization from the dropdown menu.

Your matching grant tool is located on your dashboard on the left under the section "Fundraising Tools."  When you click “Matching Grants,” you’ll be taken to your matching grants dashboard.

Creating a Matching Grant

Toward the upper right corner, click “+ Create.” Then, you’ll need to enter the details of your grant.

Adding Grantor Name and Amount

First, enter the grantor's name. If the grantor would like to remain Anonymous, simply check "Hide this name publicly" underneath the name of the sponsor.

Next, you'll want to add the amount of the match. Include match value in page metrics. Under the value amount, "Include match value in page metrics" will automatically be checked. This signifies that the Total Raised dollar amount on your profile and campaign pages will include your grant money.

Example: If you have a 1:1 match for $1,000 and keep "Include match value in page metrics" enabled and a donor makes a $5 donation, your fundraising page metrics will automatically jump up by $10. If the same match were to disable "Include match value in page metrics," then when a $5 donation is made, the metrics and thermometer would display only the $5 donation.

When deciding whether to keep this enabled or disabled, the most important thing to consider is how your grantor will provide the matching grant. If the grantor prefers to pay by check or offline method, it’s a good idea to keep this enabled. If the grantor is willing to pay online through Mightycause, disabling this feature is a good idea.

*Please note, matches will NOT count towards leaderboards or prizes for Give For Good Louisville.

Including Image and Title

You will also be able to add a photo and title to your matching grant. Adding an image and title provides a great opportunity to share more information on the match and the sponsor. To add an image, simply click on the image area.

Setting the Terms of the Matching Grant

The matching grants tool on Mightycause is versatile and can suit many different types of matching grants. In the next area, you’ll enter the details of your match.

Set When Your Grant Is Active - You can set the start and end date for your matching grant for any time- future, present, or even past. If you forgot to set up your match, no problem! Mightycause will automatically include eligible donations against the match if you set the start time in the past.

Also, you can run as many matches at one time as you would like. If you have a matching grant you want to become active as soon as another one ends, just check the box that says “Queue this grant to begin immediately after another grant completes.”

Set Your Match Type - The most common type of matching grant on Mightycause is a 1:1 match, meaning that each donation is matched in full until the grant is fulfilled. However, there are other options you can choose if you’d like to set up your matching grant a little differently.

  • Match a specific percentage of each donation. When you select this option, you’ll be asked to enter a percentage. This option will be automatically set to 100% (1:1 match). However, this can be a handy tool if you’d like to stretch your grant further by matching only a portion of each donation, such as 50%, or if you’d like to be generous with the grant money and match at a 2:1 ratio (which is 200%).
  • Match a maximum dollar amount per donation. This tool will allow you to “cap” the amount that can be matched. This helps ensure that your $1,000 grant will not be fulfilled too quickly with a few large donations. So, if you have a $1,000 match available and have set your “cap” to $100, you can prevent a few big donations from wiping out your grant.
  • Cumulative threshold match. Cumulative threshold matches allow you to create different styles of matches if you are looking for something different than a standard 1:1 match. Apply total match when cumulative donations equal the match value. This is an all-or-nothing match. For example, a grantor agrees to give $10,000 only if you can raise $10,000. For all-or-nothing matches, Mightycause does not include the match amount in your organization or campaign page amounts until the total value is met. If the total value is not met before the scheduled end of your match, then nothing will be matched. This can be a risky strategy that pays off in dividends to motivate your supporters to donate!
  • Apply total match when a certain quantity of donations is received. This option creates a match based on the number of donations you receive (formerly known as a "Challenge" on the previous Giving Day platform). For example, you can set up a match that will only be fulfilled once you receive 20 donations. Please note that this is not based on unique donors. So, if a donor donates twice, that is considered two donations towards your match. This is a great option to utilize since many of the Give for Good Louisville prizes are time-based; specifically, organizations by tier category with the most donations during a certain time period win a $1,000 prize.
  • Apply total match when a certain number of unique donors is reached. This option creates a match based on the number of unique donors you receive. For online donations, unique donors are considered unique through the email address. For example, if two different individuals by the name of Bob Smith donate to your cause, we will count both of these donors individually because they will utilize different email addresses. This is also a great option to utilize since many of the Give for Good Louisville prizes are time-based; specifically, organizations by tier category with the most donors during a certain time period win a $1,000 prize.

Set Match Conditions

There are a few match conditions you can include:

  • Set a minimum per donation amount before a match is applied. This option allows you to create a minimum donation amount before a donation is applied toward a match. For example, if you would like to motivate donors to donate at higher amounts, you may want to set up your match so that only donations over $50 will go towards the match. Please note that the lowest donation amount available for donors on the platform is $5.
  • Include offline donations in the match. This option will be automatically enabled. Any offline donations entered in Mightycause will count towards your match.
  • Include organization fundraisers in the match. If you are adding a matching grant through your organization page, you will see this option. This option is also automatically enabled for organizations. This means that all campaigns created for your organization will be included in your match. If you would like only your organization page to be included in your match, unselect this option.
  • Apply match once per donor. This option allows you to have the match count once per donor. This is a great option if you are looking to bring in new donors or reach a donor-number goal.

Setting Up Match Notifications

Now that you have entered all of your match parameters, you’ll want to enter the contact information for the grantor or person at your nonprofit who should be notified when the grant is fulfilled so they can make the donation online.

Once you have completed your match information, it's time to create it by selecting "Create Match."

Because organizations can remove and manipulate matches in real-time while they are live on the GiveForGoodLouisville.org site, donors would need to contact your organization directly to find out if their gift was matched.

To determine if a donation was matched, organization admins can use the search function in their donation report screen to locate the donor/donation. If the gift was matched, an indicator stating "Matched" in the "Amount" column will appear.

Organization admins can also download a report for each match within the Matching Grants manager on their organization dashboard (Organization Dashboard > Fundraising Tools > Matching Grants). Clicking the three-dot icon next to a match reveals a set of actions the administrator can take depending on the match status (live vs. upcoming vs. past). Suppose it is a live or past match with donations that have counted towards it. In that case, the administrator can download a donation report showing which donations counted toward the specific match. From there, you can pull the donor's contact information and email them to let them know their gift was matched if you so choose.

Your matching gifts will close automatically once they’ve been fulfilled on Mightycause. To manually close your match, go to the Matching Grants section on the left side of your organization dashboard and click the stop icon.

Once you select the stop icon, you will be asked to confirm if you want your match to close.  Please note that a match cannot be reopened once it is closed!

Most likely, you opted to include your matching gift in your metrics. When you do that, the match will be added to your metrics with each donation. So, if you have a $1,000 matching gift and someone makes a $50 donation, $50 would be added to your total. (Conversely, $50 would be removed from the amount available on your matching grants summary table.) When you choose to add the match in your metrics, it’s not added in one lump sum after the match is fulfilled, it’s added donation by donation.

First, don’t panic! The Mightycause matching grants tool allows you to back date matches. Follow the steps here to enter your matching grant, but when choosing your date, back date it to when your matching grant should have started. The matching grants tool will automatically apply to grant to donations made during the time you specify.

No. Only the online donations that get matched by your matching grant will count towards prizes. The matching grant itself does not.

Mightycause sends an email to the email address you enter in the matching grants tool alerting the donor that the match has been fulfilled and prompting them to pay on Mightycause. If they’ve settled the grant with you off the platform, no problem! Just tell them to disregard that email.

Yes! Gifts made by Community Foundation of Louisville fundholders via the Giveforgoodlouisville.org are labeled as ONLINE donations by the system. Since all matching grants created by organizations through the MIghtycause platform are activated by online donations within the start / end time they set the match up to run, this means that fundholders are able to join in on the gamification fun this year!
