I believe knowledge becomes most powerful when we use it to help someone else.
Throughout my career in nursing and healthcare, I have seen firsthand how education can change outcomes, build confidence, and even save lives. My work has taken me from caring for patients at the bedside to leading programs focused on quality, innovation, community education, and health literacy. Today, a significant part of my work centers on helping young people understand their own ability to learn, lead, and make a difference in the lives of others.
That is one of the reasons I connect so strongly with I Would Rather Be Reading. Literacy gives children more than the ability to read words on a page. It gives them another tool to understand the world around them, communicate what they know, advocate for themselves, and discover opportunities they may not have imagined before.
Through my work with Sevaro’s Children’s Health Literacy Department, I have had the opportunity to help bring health education to young people and encourage students to become advocates and leaders in their own communities. Our work has reinforced something I deeply believe: young people are capable of making an incredible impact when we give them knowledge, encouragement, and opportunities to use their voices.
I also believe leadership comes with a responsibility to connect people, organizations, and resources to meaningful causes. Whether through healthcare, education, partnerships, or community outreach, I want to use my experience and relationships to help create opportunities for others to succeed.
That is why I am proud to support I Would Rather Be Reading during Give for Good Louisville. IWRBR is investing in children by strengthening literacy, building confidence, and creating spaces where young people can learn and grow.
I hope you will join me in supporting this work. Every gift, regardless of the amount, is an investment in a child’s ability to learn, discover their potential, and become someone who can one day use what they know to make a difference for someone else.
