At Granny’s Birth Initiative (GBI), we meet families where they are with care, compassion, and community.

Too often, birthing families are overlooked, unheard, or under-supported. Especially when navigating pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in systems that weren’t designed with them in mind. GBI exists to fill those gaps, break down barriers, and remind every family that they matter.

This year for Give for Good Louisville, we’re asking you to help us do just that.

Your support will directly fund our work to bring dignity, safety, and culturally competent care to families across our city. Whether it’s a ride to a prenatal appointment, a fresh pack of diapers, or a doula holding a mom’s hand through labor, your donation makes that possible.

🫶 What We Do

GBI is a grassroots nonprofit providing wraparound services to birthing families who are often pushed to the margins. We believe that birth should be a safe, empowering experience, not a traumatic one. That’s why we offer free and accessible services that provide both practical support and emotional care.

Here are the core programs your donation will support:

🚗 Doula Dash

Transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to good care. Doula Dash helps families get to prenatal appointments, hospital visits, and essential postpartum check-ins. When someone needs to get there safely, we show up.

📱 Doula Tech

Technology meets tradition. Doula Tech connects families to trained doulas using a secure, easy-to-use digital platform. Whether they’re preparing for their first birth or recovering postpartum, clients can access emotional, physical, and informational support from someone who understands their journey.

🍼 Milk on the Move

Feeding your baby should never be a question mark. Milk on the Move helps families access breast milk, formula, and lactation support through mobile delivery and one-on-one guidance.

🎒 The Maternity Pantry

Our pantry provides new and expecting families with essential supplies like diapers, wipes, hygiene kits, and baby gear. No red tape or judgment. Just love, support, and dignity.

🍲 Mommy Meals

Postpartum recovery requires nourishment. Our Mommy Meals program delivers warm, nutritious meals to families after birth so they can focus on rest, bonding, and healing — not worrying about what’s for dinner.

🏡 Granny’s H.U.Bs (Holistic Urban Birth Services)

Our H.U.Bs are healing spaces offering birth education, community events, and holistic care. It’s where families come to feel seen, supported, and connected from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.

💜 Why It Matters

The families we serve are strong, resilient, and full of love. But they deserve more than just surviving the system. They deserve to thrive in it.

Many of our clients are navigating pregnancy while dealing with housing insecurity, lack of transportation, income instability, or generational trauma. Some are parenting alone. Others are new to the city. Some have never had someone ask them, “What do you need?”

That’s what we do. We ask. We listen. We show up.

When you give to GBI, you’re not just donating. You’re telling a mom she’s not alone. You’re putting diapers in someone’s trunk. You’re helping a baby come into the world safely. You’re supporting birth equity, not in theory, but in practice.
