I can't express how grateful I am to have found my way to the Louisville Folk School. What started three years ago as a simple decision to get back to the fundamentals of guitar has grown into an incredible community of new friends and the highlight of my week. Whether it's diving into private guitar lessons with Haley Shields or singing together in the choir led by Julia Purcell, the Folk School creates such a warm, welcoming, and inspiring space. Every class reminds me how powerful it is to make music alongside others, and I hope you'll consider supporting this amazing organization!
While the Louisville Folk School has always offered group classes and private lessons for teens and adults, in recent years we have expanded music programs for children. This includes In-School Performances, where folk musicians perform in local schools; the Sounds of Kentucky After-School Program, for depth, hands-on music education; and Summer Camps, which delve into folk and traditional music for a full week. These are just some of the ways in which we share the power of live music and the joy of making music together with thousands of youth across Greater Louisville.
Of the 4,000 children who participate in music education programming through the Folk School, 98% do so for free. This is only possible because of sponsors and donors like you. This year on Give for Good, we aim to raise $30,00 to support music education. Your generosity will allow us to provide a welcoming space where students of all ages and abilities can explore their musical talents, connect with others, and celebrate Kentucky's cultural heritage.
