As the Associate Artistic Director at StageOne, I get to see firsthand what theatre does for children. It does so much more than give them a spotlight and a stage—it builds the empathy, communication, and social-emotional skills that prepare them for future success. Over the last eight decades, StageOne has helped more than 4 million children find their voice and build self-confidence.

Today, we reach over 40,000 children annually through in-school programming, field trips to mainstage performances at The Kentucky Center, and classes and camps at our Payne Street campus—many at no cost to their families. These experiences matter more than ever in an era of declining arts funding, increased screen time, and virtual learning.
