If you know our family then you most definitely know Lukas, the brightest and most tenacious little boy with golden red hair. He is a walking show of proof that the type of care and support he’s receiving through neuro-affirming, child led, play based and strengths focused therapies is successful.
Elmgrove Foundation is a Louisville-based nonprofit working to create a community where neurodivergent people and their families can feel understood, supported, and genuinely connected.
Our connection with Elmgrove grew out of our relationship with Trailhouse (therapy providers) in Anchorage, KY as parents of an autistic child and a neurodivergent family. We’d struggled through the first two years of navigating life after Lukas’ diagnosis. There is no handbook, no help, no guidance and definitely no support or options. We were figuring it out the hard way and doing it alone. Our journey has brought us immense heartbreak and grief, but also deep joy and love…and the kind of cramps you get from belly laughing for so long. We want to help lessen the struggle for families who follow.
Born from the lived experience of neurodivergent people, families, and clinicians, Elmgrove is building something different: affirming therapy and family support, education and training, advocacy, financial assistance, and opportunities for meaningful community—all grounded in dignity, autonomy, and an understanding of different nervous systems.
Right now, one of our biggest goals is creating a permanent home where this work can grow and expand access to:
- Affirming therapy
- Education and training
- Community programs
- Advocacy
This home will help make it possible for neurodivergent people and their families to find the resources, connection, and belonging that are often so difficult to find.
As a member of Elmgrove’s Board, I’m helping raise funds to move this vision forward. I invite you to learn more about why Elmgrove matters to me and, if you feel connected to this work, to help us build what comes next.
