Our connection to the Elmgrove Foundation started long before there was an Elmgrove.
Several years ago, our family entered a world we knew very little about as we began searching for the right support for one of our children. Like so many families raising a neurodivergent child, we quickly learned that finding resources can be difficult, and finding a place where your family truly feels understood and welcome can be even harder.
Our journey eventually led us to Trailhouse. What we found there was much more than exceptional therapists and programs. We found a sense of belonging and a place where our children could simply be themselves, where they were welcomed, supported, encouraged, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
That experience changed the way I think about what families truly need.
Parents and caregivers spend countless hours searching for answers, navigating services, facing waiting lists, and trying to create the best possible future for the people they love. And even when services are available, something is often still missing: a community where families can connect and neurodivergent people can belong without having to mask, perform, or fit someone else's expectations.
That is what Elmgrove is working to create.
Growing out of the community built at Trailhouse, Elmgrove is the next step: a permanent home where affirming care, education, family support, and genuine community can come together.
Elmgrove's work goes beyond creating a physical space. It includes reducing financial barriers to therapy, camps, educational opportunities, and other supportive programs; helping families, educators, and professionals better understand neurodivergent people; advocating for environments that honor dignity and autonomy; and bringing together organizations across Louisville to create a more affirming community.
It will be a place where neurodivergent individuals can connect, learn, play, regulate, and simply be themselves without judgment, and where parents and caregivers can find understanding, practical support, and connection with others navigating similar journeys.
Elmgrove is working toward a future where affirming community is not something families have to spend years searching for. We hope to create a model for what is possible when a community intentionally chooses to welcome, support, and invest in neurodivergent people and the families who love them.
Give for Good Louisville is an opportunity to help bring that vision to life.
Whether through a donation or by sharing Elmgrove's story, you can help create a community where more individuals and families feel supported, understood, and at home.
Help us build a place where every family can feel like they belong. ___________________________________________________________
ABOUT ELMGROVE
Elmgrove is a Louisville-based nonprofit working to create a community where neurodivergent people and their families can feel understood, supported, and genuinely connected.
Born from the lived experience of neurodivergent people, families, and clinicians, Elmgrove is building something different: affirming therapy and family support, education and training, advocacy, financial assistance, and opportunities for meaningful community—all grounded in dignity, autonomy, and an understanding of different nervous systems.
Right now, one of our biggest goals is creating a permanent home where this work can grow and expand access to:
- Affirming therapy
- Education and training
- Community programs
- Advocacy
This home will help make it possible for neurodivergent people and their families to find the resources, connection, and belonging that are often so difficult to find.
As a member of Elmgrove’s Board, I’m helping raise funds to move this vision forward. I invite you to learn more about why Elmgrove matters to me and, if you feel connected to this work, to help us build what comes next.
