In the heart of West Louisville, where resilience meets need, there is a legacy of compassion that continues to shape lives. It began in 1968 when Dr. Harvey Sloane, a visionary physician and community advocate, saw a problem that could no longer be ignored—families in the West End lacked access to basic medical care. They faced impossible choices: food or medicine, rent or a healthcare. Dr. Sloane refused to let these challenges define the community’s future. Instead, he built a solution—the first Federally Qualified  Health Center (FQHC) in Kentucky, offering quality care to those who needed it most. His impact didn’t stop there—he pioneered the city’s first public ambulance service, served as Mayor of Louisville, and dedicated his life to health equity. Decades later, his vision lives on through the Dr. Harvey Sloane Patient Assistance Fund, ensuring that no patient at Park DuValle Community Health Centers has to forgo essential healthcare due to financial hardship. The need is greater than ever. More than 70% of our patients battle multiple chronic illnesses, yet many must decide which life-saving medications they can afford to fill. Others face debilitating dental issues, unable to afford specialized care.

Donate to our Dr. Harvey Sloane Patient Assistance Fund that aids our patients who cannot afford their medications and specialized dental services at all 5 locations in Kentucky, along with a school-based clinic in the West End School.  Although our low-income patients are eligible for sliding fee scale discounted services based on income and family size, sometimes the very nominal fees charged for medications can prove to be a barrier to care.  More than 70% of our patients have two or more chronic diseases, patients with more than one medication may “pick and choose” which medication to fill based on what they can afford at the time.  To avoid this unsafe habit, this fund was established.  With your donation, patients will continue to receive high quality health care services in our underserved communities regardless of their ability to pay.
