WAGS Pet Therapy of KY, Inc, has had a long history of working closely with schools to raise awareness of animal-assisted education. From our Read to WAGS programs, to safety around dogs, to humane treatment of animals, to summer camps and Girl Scout presentations, children are a vital part of our mission. And it doesn't stop there! WAGS teams continue to support young adults in high school and college. We attend festivals, classes, and finals week events at many local colleges and universities.
A therapy dog becomes not only a part of a school's culture, they remain a crucial determinant in a child's future relationships with animals.
One of the most endearing and meaningful items we leave behind on school visits are our trading cards. WAGS provides these at no cost to the individual team, but we do need your support to keep these in circulation! Your donation could mean that a child who is afraid or unable to pet a dog on a visit has something they can keep after the team leaves. After 4th graders at Goldsmith met Theo, they composed a poem about him based on a unit they had completed with the book Love That Dog (Creech). Theo visits at Goldsmith, St. Athanasius, Slaughter, and sometimes Wilt and Seneca! He also spends time with me at UofL!
We currently have a waiting list of more than 15 schools. Some of your donation will also enable us to recruit and train new teams to meet the needs of all of our area children! Thank you for supporting WAGS and making our dogs more accessible to children all over the city!
Our team includes only a few of the marvelous teams currently visiting schools in our area. Donate to honor one of them!
