31 for 31: Advocacy to Independence
Celebrating 31 years of disability leadership, advocacy, choice, and Independent Living in Central Kentucky.
Independence Place began serving Central Kentucky in 1995 as a consumer-driven Center for Independent Living. In 2025, Independence Place joined the Center for Accessible Living, bringing decades of local experience and relationships into CAL’s broader network.
Today, Independence Place at CAL continues that legacy by helping people with disabilities have greater choice and control over their lives. Through advocacy, peer support, information and referral, independent living skills, transition assistance, community outreach, and other resources, we support people in defining independence for themselves.
For 31 years, one principle has remained at the heart of this work: people with disabilities have the right to make their own choices, direct their own lives, and participate fully in their communities.
This Give for Good, we’re celebrating 31 years by raising $3,100 to help write the next chapter of Independence Place at CAL.
Our history is worth remembering. Our work is still needed. And independence is always worth investing in.
