One of my favorite quotes is from Mother Teresa. "If you can't feed hundred people, then just feed one."

Last year Highland Community Ministries served food to 7,414 residents. They distributed free food items to residents in need in the 40204, 40205, and a portion in 40218. That's why I love the food pantry!! 

That is why I’m raising money for HCM. Because whether someone needs food or simply a place to turn, HCM is one of the places where the safety net becomes real.

We are the safety net. And you can be, too.

We Are the Safety Net

When larger systems fall short, neighbors step forward.

Across Louisville, more of our neighbors are facing impossible choices. Older adults are waiting for meals. Families are struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and groceries. Public support is becoming less certain at the very moment local need is growing.

At Highlands Community Ministries, we believe a safety net is not just a program or a policy. It is people.

It is the volunteer delivering meals to an older adult who lives alone. It is the donor who helps a family stay housed after an unexpected crisis. It is the neighbor who makes sure the pantry shelves are stocked. It is the community that says, “You are not alone.”

This Give for Good Louisville, HCM is raising $45,000 to respond where the need is greatest. Your gift may help provide meals for older adults, groceries for families, help with rent or utilities, or care for a neighbor who does not know where else to turn.

One of the stories guiding us this year is the story of Florence, a 95-year-old neighbor served through Meals on Wheels. For Florence, this program was never just about food. It was about dignity, consistency, relationship, and being known by name. Her story reminds us that no neighbor should disappear into a waiting list, a budget cut, or a system that has grown too thin to hold them.
