We all need a little help sometimes.

Highland Community Ministries provides help to neighbors in our community in a variety of ways. Some of the ways HCM supports our community include rent or utility assistance for struggling families, providing groceries from our food pantry, delivering meals to older adults, and providing school supplies to children.

We Are the Safety Net

When larger systems fall short, neighbors step forward.

Across Louisville, more of our neighbors are facing impossible choices. Older adults are waiting for meals. Families are struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and groceries. Public support is becoming less certain at the very moment local need is growing.

At Highlands Community Ministries, we believe a safety net is not just a program or a policy. It is people.

It is the volunteer delivering meals to an older adult who lives alone. It is the donor who helps a family stay housed after an unexpected crisis. It is the neighbor who makes sure the pantry shelves are stocked. It is the community that says, “You are not alone.”

One of the stories guiding us this year is the story of Florence, a 95-year-old neighbor served through Meals on Wheels. For Florence, this program was never just about food. It was about dignity, consistency, relationship, and being known by name. Her story reminds us that no neighbor should disappear into a waiting list, a budget cut, or a system that has grown too thin to hold them.
