"Youth sports are all about having fun. Fun is motivation for kids!"

HYR is a huge part of my life.  I started out as a player around 5, advanced to referee, moved up to coach, and now find myself as the lead for the 4 year old Parent Player Academy and a member of the sterring committee.  I have loved every minute of it!  It is so  important for kids to have a fun and non competive activities.  The connection that HYR gives to kids and parents is amazing.  I love seeing many of the kids I have coached playing in the older divisions.  I have even coached entire families; oldest to youngest siblings.

Many of the 4 year olds I have coached are children I see in the neighborhood.  Some have been students at my school and within my very own classroom.

HYR has always had a commitment to never turning a child away if they couldn't pay making sure everyone is included and has a place to play.

I have coached the 4-year-old league for so long that I have former players who are now in middle school.

We Are the Safety Net

When larger systems fall short, neighbors step forward.

Across Louisville, more of our neighbors are facing impossible choices. Older adults are waiting for meals. Families are struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and groceries. Public support is becoming less certain at the very moment local need is growing.

At Highlands Community Ministries, we believe a safety net is not just a program or a policy. It is people.

It is the volunteer delivering meals to an older adult who lives alone. It is the donor who helps a family stay housed after an unexpected crisis. It is the neighbor who makes sure the pantry shelves are stocked. It is the community that says, “You are not alone.”

This Give for Good Louisville, HCM is raising $45,000 to respond where the need is greatest. Your gift may help provide meals for older adults, groceries for families, help with rent or utilities, or care for a neighbor who does not know where else to turn.

One of the stories guiding us this year is the story of Florence, a 95-year-old neighbor served through Meals on Wheels. For Florence, this program was never just about food. It was about dignity, consistency, relationship, and being known by name. Her story reminds us that no neighbor should disappear into a waiting list, a budget cut, or a system that has grown too thin to hold them.

The safety net is only strong when we hold it together.

Whether you give $10, $50, $100, or more, your gift helps HCM show up for neighbors who cannot afford to wait.

Give today and be part of the care our neighbors are counting on.

We are the safety net. And you can be, too.
