When I founded Louisville Folk School in 2015, my goal was to create a place where people could come together to learn, share, and celebrate traditional music. Our group classes for teens and adults have been at the heart of that vision from the very beginning.

In recent years, I’ve been especially proud to see that work grow to include children as well. Today, we bring folk musicians into schools for live performances, host summer camps, and offer our Sounds of Kentucky after-school program, where kids get the chance to dig deeper into making music together. These programs are doing exactly what I dreamed about when I started the Folk School: passing the torch of traditional music to the next generation.

Of the 4,000 children who participate in Folk School youth programs, 98% do so for free. That is only possible because of sponsors and donors.

This Give for Good, I’m asking 30 friends and family members to make a gift and help Louisville Folk School reach our goal of raising $30,000 for youth music education. Your support will help us continue the programs we’ve already built and expand our after-school programming so more kids across Louisville can have these opportunities, with the hope of eventually reaching more communities across Kentucky.

As founder of the Folk School, this work is deeply personal to me. Alongside raising my own child, building a place where music creates community, confidence, and joy has become my life’s work.

I’d be honored if you would join me in investing in the next generation. Whether you give $10, $50, $100, or more, every gift moves us closer to giving another young person the chance to discover what making music with others can mean.

Thank you for helping us keep these traditions alive and passing them on.
