Support (Un)Known Project!
(Un)Known Project unearths and honors the names and stories of enslaved Black people in America and the global African diaspora. We support learning, healing, and reconciliation through the creation of artistic spaces and experiences.
In 2021, we unveiled our first public art installation "On the Banks of Freedom", and in 2024 unveiled "In Our Elders' Footprints" on the same site. We also launched Footprints Through Time, our Augmented Reality educational offering which is free and available to the public. Over the years, thousands of people have visited the site, and used it to celebrate and honor their ancestors.
We are now working to expand the site into the (Un)Known Project Sculpture Park!
The expansion of the (Un)Known Project Sculpture Park will include:
- Two new public art installations: America 250, which will honor the widespread contributions that enslaved people made in shaping America, and Broken Wings Still Fly which will focus on Black women, presenting a multi-generational depiction of community, hope, and resilience inspired by our production with the same title that was written based on the lived of enslaved women in Kentucky
- Additional seating, walkways, signage with historical information and a guardrail near the river
- A pavilion to provide shade at the site
We hope you'll join us and make an investment today in the (Un)Known Project Sculpture Park as a legacy site in the Louisville community.
