Operation Recovery: Rebuilding Together

In December 2021, a powerful tornado outbreak swept across western Kentucky, causing widespread damage. The small town of Dawson Springs was especially hard-hit—approximately 75% of homes were destroyed or significantly damaged, leaving many families in urgent need of help.

In response, CrossRoads Missions launched Operation Recovery, a long-term initiative focused on helping communities recover through home construction, repair, and support, all in partnership with local churches. In Dawson Springs, over the course of three years, more than 1,800 volunteers joined efforts to build 30 new homes, complete numerous home repairs, and support the community’s broader recovery. This work not only addressed physical needs but also helped local churches care for their neighbors and reconnect with their communities.

Expanding the Mission to East Tennessee

In 2024, when severe flooding affected Johnson County, Tennessee following Hurricane Helene, CrossRoads Missions extended Operation Recovery to serve this new area of need. Floodwaters caused major damage to homes and infrastructure, and many families were displaced.

Partnering with First Christian Church of Mountain City, Operation Recovery is now:

  • Providing free housing and meals for volunteer teams,

  • Supporting local churches as they lead recovery efforts,

  • Working toward the goal of rebuilding 78 homes over the next two years,

  • Offering both practical support and personal connection to those affected.

How You Can Make a Difference

Operation Recovery is built on partnership—between volunteers, donors, churches, and the communities they serve. Whether by giving, serving, or praying, you can be part of helping families return home and communities regain stability.

  • Donate to support ongoing rebuilding efforts

  • Volunteer your time and skills

  • Pray for those recovering and those serving

Together, we can continue the important work of restoring homes and rebuilding lives.
