Because housing is a human right, the mission of the Coalition for the Homeless is to prevent and end homelessness in Louisville through advocacy, education, and the coordination of our 40+ member agencies.
We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. This year, with the support of our donors, we celebrated these wins:
Our Coordinated Shelter Access team served over 4,500 people in crisis to help them access shelter and other resources.
We launched the Home for Good campaign with city and civic leaders to expand Permanent Supportive Housing and significantly reduce street homelessness, beginning with $500,000 in city funding. With Louisville’s 98% success rate in keeping formerly homeless people housed, we’re confident this effort can build on that success and help make our city a more vibrant, thriving community for everyone.
We mobilized the community to send more than 6,000 messages to elected officials, while also hosting over 100 legislative meetings. We also organized 35 community education events reaching 2,000+ attendees to build understanding of the real causes and solutions to homelessness.
We were awarded $5 million dollars from the Day 1 Families Fund and are distributing these funds to support 10 local nonprofits working to address family homelessness, expanding resources and help reduce the number of unhoused families in our community.

The mission of the Coalition for the Homeless is to prevent and end homelessness in Louisville through advocacy, education, and the coordination of our 40+ member agencies. We have been the lead advocate for Louisville's homeless since 1986, when we were founded after several people died on Louisville's streets.
The Coalition helps coordinate the efforts of dozens of organizations in our compassionate city who are working with thousands of local homeless and vulnerable individuals. Our partners provide housing, food, clothing, health care, counseling, and legal services to the homeless. Our role is to evaluate the needs of the homeless and of our agencies, to identify and address gaps in services community-wide, and to implement smart, long-term solutions.
