On a muggy Saturday morning in 2005, I arrived at the Community Boathouse in Louisville, already nervous at the thought of getting on the water. Randy Mills, the director of Louisville Adaptive Rowing, had pestered me until I gave in, saying, “Once. I’ll try it once.” 

Twenty-one years later, I still look forward to Saturday mornings on the river. I'd fallen in love with the rhythm of the stroke, the sound of the water, and being surrounded by nature.

Through the years, I've competed at regattas in Philadelphia, Moline, Indianapolis, and Boston—at the Head of the Charles.
