Championing Scholars: A Journey I Know Firsthand

Hi, I’m proud to be a fundraising champion for Lincoln Foundation during Give For Good Louisville — because this mission is personal.

I know what it’s like to walk the path our scholars are on. I’m a first-generation college graduate who overcame economic barriers, family responsibilities, and the challenge of navigating higher education without a roadmap. I didn’t graduate until my thirties — not because I lacked determination, but because I had to step away to support my family. That journey shaped me, and it’s why I’m passionate about helping others succeed.

When I meet Lincoln Foundation scholars, I see myself in them. I hear their stories — working second jobs, helping their mothers, struggling to stay in school while supporting their families. Some have had to drop out. Some have parents who don’t speak English and don’t know how to navigate the system. I’ve lived that. I am that.

Supporting these scholars isn’t just about giving money. It’s about investing in their future, in their resilience, in their dreams. It’s about saying, “I see you. I believe in you. You’re not alone.”
