Many of my most formative experiences as a young person were outdoors. Early on I developed a curiosity about and reverence for the earth, and that led me to study environmental science in college, which led me to food systems and then to the Food Literacy Project. Environmental, food, racial, and cultural justice issues can feel so massive and daunting, but I believe that with my food choices I can make a small impact every day. Through this work, in the fields and school cafeterias alongside young people, that impact is magnified as youth activate and harness their power to push for changes that they want and need to see. Growing food is challenging but rewarding and is necessary for a community to become more self reliant, equitable, and connected. As young people get invested and connected, food is only the starting point - the impact is exponential!
My life has been shaped by this work and the folks that it has brought me into community with. I love growing, cooking, and eating food. I love getting others excited about the importance and potential impact that intentional food choices, and enjoying the most delicious seasonal bounty can have for an individual and a community.
Please support the Food Literacy Project today in this exciting moment of growth so we can continue to deepen and expand our impact!
