I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Lincoln Foundation Trustee for many years, and I’m reminded why this work matters so deeply to me. After a long career in higher education, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of opportunity, especially for young people who need a strong foundation to build on.

During my time at the University of Louisville, I had the honor of mentoring Whitney M. Young Scholars after they entered college, many of whom attended the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. I watched them grow, academically, socially, and personally. I celebrated their graduations, saw them launch careers, and even witnessed second-generation students follow in their parents’ footsteps to become engineers. That kind of legacy is powerful. It’s proof that when we invest in young people, we’re not just changing lives, we’re changing generations.

Though I’m now retired, I continue to give my time and financial support to Lincoln Foundation because I believe deeply in its mission: helping promising students earn a college degree and thrive. Their determination, resilience, and success continue to inspire me.
