Hey everyone! It's me...Nick Brewer...and I'll be representing the Brewer Clan in the following blurb.
I started my Boys & Girls Haven journey back in 2020 working with the kids as a Youth Counselor. For the past 3 years, I've been the Marketing & Design Manager here. I've had countless triumphs and challenges, and I've grown alongside the many super cool kids I've worked with (even the ones who gave me daily headaches).
The rest of my family had been searching for ways to make a difference, and they quickly found a home here.
It started small—just a movie night. My parents, Mike & Nadine, suggested we do something fun for the children, so we loaded up the car with a projector, some popcorn, and set up a large inflatable screen in the campus gym. Watching those kids laugh and cheer as the movie played, we realized what a difference we could mak by simply being present.
As time went on, our connection to Boys & Girls Haven deepened.
My girlfriend Gretchen wanted to get involved too. Gretchen is a hairstylist by trade, and she started offering free haircuts to young adults in the foster care system. I’d sit with them and chat while Gretchen worked her magic, and we’d talk about everything from sports to their plans for the future. Some of them had never had a professional salon experience. But it wasn’t just about the fresh cut—it was about the confidence they gained when they looked in the mirror afterward.
For us, Boys & Girls Haven isn’t just a place we donate to, work, or volunteer. It’s part of our family now. And each time we’re here, we’re reminded that no act of kindness is too small when it’s done with love.
