WHY ACTORS THEATRE MATTERS TO ME

My relationship with Actors Theatre started 36 years ago when I woke up on August 13, 1990 and nervously walked into my new position in the box office. To say that I've met friends here in that 36 years is a huge understatement. Some of the amazing people I have met and worked with through the years have become not just friends, but family. However, the reason I support Actors Theatre on this Give For Good day is because of the stories. The stories on the stages, of course. But also the stories you don't see on stages, but hear from the audiences. The stories of how the theatre has not only changed lives, but saved them. Whether through a student matinee that made someone change the entire trajectory of their life, or attending a production that made someone laugh, cry, and even change their perspective - all in the same 2 hours. Or through showing up for a play on a night you really just wanted to crawl into bed and forget the day you just had, but came anyway, and somehow, were healed just a little bit.

If you are one of those stories, like I am, and live theatre has made your life better, if only for the few hours that it swept you up in its magical trance, please join me in supporting the future of the art, the history, the tradition, and most of all...the story.

JOIN ME

This Give for Good Louisville, I’m asking you to join me in supporting Actors Theatre. Every gift helps keep live theatre thriving in our community and creates more opportunities for people to experience the connection, joy, and belonging that the arts provide.

WHY GIVE TO ACTORS THEATRE?

  • Regular participation in cultural events is associated with a 32% lower risk of depression.
  • Engaging with the arts just a few times a year is associated with a 14% lower risk of premature death.
  • The arts give us a place to gather. Chronic loneliness can have a significant impact on our health — the U.S. Surgeon General compares its effects to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR:

When you invest in the arts you’re creating a healthier, happier Louisville.
